They all get that part straight away and thus know what relays to choose for their outbox 👉 the communities they want to publish in

They also grasp pretty quickly that they can publish more than just chat messages in there: posts, articles, events, audio, repos, ...

And honestly they get pretty exited about this part specifically.

In my designs, every such publication, when opened, displays to what communities it was targeted (and accepted of course):

This helps with community discovery and with helping them understand that they can target their stuff to more than one public community at once.

Then, for the inbox-part it comes down to shilling the benefits of having a personal relay:

- a backup of all your stuff

- fast access and computation for you specifically

- having your own inbox that you can set a price or other conditions for

- publishing private things exclusively to a whitelisted set of npubs

- privacy in general

- etc...

One last thing that can help is not displaying relays as freaking geeky looking websites 😅. Relays need npubs, and the profile name that comes with it, if you ask me.

FYI after quite a bit of testing I settled on qwen2.5 coder 1.5b for autocomplete and llama 3.2 1b for chat. These models are tiny, but bigger models had too poor of speed performance on an M1 laptop for daily use. I’m sure the results will pale in comparison to larger models, but it is certainly better than nothing for free!

speed is the most important feature.

being able to send a note/post via text, have it fully render, and instantly load when someone clicks on it, is one of the biggest things that will help build network effect.

communities, such as ditto, and giving people the option to make them private and encrypted, is a net new feature not found on any other platform that will draw people to the nostr social app protocol, and be the best onboarding and discovery tool out there. people care a lot more about privacy than censorship-resistance.

getting as much content and information on here, welcoming of the bots and agentic AI, will allow this protocol to be the only one that can definitively state: "see everything." especially since no individual/corporation/government can delete your content or account.

this is what i would prioritize. the past two years of nostr has been about exploring the breadth of the protocol. great! it's now time to go deep and focus on quality and differentiated experiences. not copies of copies.

NIP-89 exists exactly to allow applications' discoverability.

In a perfect world a super app would pave the way with experimental/convenient solutions, offloading the features in a collaborative way, as soon as other apps will specialize in them.

I really would love to write a book about it. We're NZ citizens and couldn't get home for such a long time! We were kinda grateful in a lot of ways. It forced us to really challenge everything and get very uncomfortable.

We were actually stuck in Vietnam, but found out we were pregnant and since we prefer home birth we had to find a country that was open and didn't have too many rules to travel to. We spent three months in Turkey, a month in Greece and then moved over to Spain. 🤩

My honest belief is the only actual limitation to the life I live would be a really tough passport to travel on (in saying that I have met people travelling on passports from almost everywhere, it's just a lot harder for a person / family with a passport from a country with lots of visa requirements.

We were a one income family. My husband drove trucks 60 hours a week in Australia (not a cheap country).

We rented out a spare bedroom. We sold everything we owned (not much, we didn't have assets or own a home, no fancy car) left with 3 kids and fuck all money. We almost ran out.

And we were stuck in a foreign country with no way home because our borders were closed. As our funds went down, I found a way to teach English online for $10 usd an hour. Eventually I got sick of travelling with hardly any time or money. And then I found a great remote job.

My point is, If you want it badly enough you'll sell everything, cancel every subscription service you have. You'll save every cent, no takeout, no wastage. You'll take every opportunity to learn some skills that might help you abroad. And you'll find you have enough to buy your ticket (even if it's only domestic or close by local if you have difficult visa restrictions). And then you save a bit longer and you go. It doesn't have to be complicated.

We are by no means financially more wealthy than any average western world family. I didn't win lotto, sell a big tech company or gain some kind of inheritance. I'm just a normal everyday human. My main difference to the standard family is we don't buy stuff, we never owned cars on finance and we were always living on a strict budget that allowed us to save.

I dare you to challenge your limiting belief (if travel is something you actually want to do) 🙏

I will say that the prompting from continue in the chat does seem to add quite a bit of a delay. Autocomplete is responsive, but chatting is noticeably slow.

Very new to exploring this. I’ve used ChatGPT and that’s about it. So far using ollama through docker has been great for running locally. Mostly testing small open models >=8b parameters.

Will see how these small models do on my M1… I imagine they will give me enough of a boost that I won’t choose to pay for something.
