That's what I thought. Everything else I said still applies to that type of zapvertising. I'm really over this subject though. I hate ads and I feel like I've been tricked into advertising right now.

If the advertising is the "buzz" then everyone subject to it is not getting paid. How many people have read about blockstream in the past week that didn't get zapped by them?

Seriously if this is what zapvertising is you all are a bunch of tools. Are you really going to sell out for 21 sats? This "organic buzz" has permeated my feed for several days and all it is is a company zapping some notes without even saying anything? Lame.

So they are paying people that I follow to advertise for them? I like that even less.

I don't have a problem yet because it's not that intrusive, but in general I despise advertising. I think people are just thinking about the future when nostr becomes a larger audience and advertisers see a big opportunity to reach people and what that could look like. What if there were 50 zapvertisements on a popular post and you wanted to see who had zapped not for advertising? You would still have to look through the ads even though you didn't get zapped directly.

You don't get to choose how people interact with your notes on #nostr. That would be censorship.

I always hated how someone could block you on Twitter and prevent you from commenting or even seeing their content. Once you put words out into the world they are no longer yours to control. You can't control how people react to them. You can't take them back or make people forget you said them. They become public domain.

Likewise you can't make people listen either. If someone doesn't want to see you in their feed that is their choice, not yours. If you don't like what nostr:npub1jg552aulj07skd6e7y2hu0vl5g8nl5jvfw8jhn6jpjk0vjd0waksvl6n8n is doing with zapvertising then block them! If advertising of any kind becomes a too big of a problem then choose a client that blocks them for you. You do not have to suffer from ads if you don't want to. Choosing not to listen to someone is not censorship, it's freedom.

I can't stand the likes vs zaps debate. I think like are very valuable in their own way.

Advertising will probably get really bad if nostr grows into a larger audience. Most likely clients will find ways to filter out ads for you eventually. Otherwise nostr will become unusable.

I think you're touching on a good point about advertising in general. As nostr grows and becomes a larger audience it is going to attract all sorts of crap.

At the end of the day it's not up to you how people interact with your post. It will come down to what other users choose to allow show up in their own feed. There will be some clients that will filter out advertisements and other content and some that don't. People who don't want to see ads for drugs will choose the ones with filters that block them. People that do want drug ads will choose other clients, and you shouldn't be worried about what they see because that is their choice.

This is a good one. A lot of people ignore trade offs while trying to maximize for something. I've been trying to figure out my self custody setup recently and had to ponder a lot the trade offs between protecting myself from theft vs accidental loss. I've been finding that for some things, like multisig, they are inversely correlated.

What I did is opened a channel with Phoenix for about 2m sats for larger purchases on lightning. As I spend I refill the channel with Strike. I then also use WoS for zaps and refill that from Phoenix.

"Best" is really dependant on your situation, what you plan to use it for and what trade offs you're willing to make for convenience vs control. If you are trying to get larger amounts into lightning you'll probably want to run your own node.

1 and 2 are my top two as well! Though I never thought to back up my Phoenix wallet with BW. Do you just put your Phoenix seed in BW for easy access to the funds if the channel closes?
