I can confirm that both Tailscale and LNC make using your node worthwhile. Otherwise, with TOR, you're going have a horrible experience with slowness and connection timeouts.

I’m really liking the distinct Nostr experience vs the Twitter experience. Occasionally I cross-post something on both, but my decision in recent weeks to treat them differently has been very rewarding.

Years ago, I used to post on certain forums. But as someone with a big Twitter following now, I am more self-conscious of what I post there these past few years. It’s like, I feel quite a responsibility before I send something out to 600k followers, rather than being able to treat it rather carefree like I would treat a forum in the old days. Of course, once in a while I get provoked by something or I share something random and funny for no reason, but not usually.

Since the community on Nostr is still smallish, it kind of rekindles that more carefree feeling of just posting, talking. And I post less about economics, which is my main Twitter silo.

And because I want open protocols like Nostr to succeed, I deliberately want to be here, posting. So it is a win-win; I try to add value but also it scratches an itch for me that hasn’t been scratched in a while.

Maybe if/when Nostr becomes large, it will recreate that sense of filtering that I have on Twitter. But I would still consider that a success, because it means Nostr succeeded and I at least got to experience a smaller social environment for another period of time.

Today has me thinking how far I’ve come on my bitcoin journey. Just a few years ago I was panicking when the price was crashing. Now it’s just another day to buy. The difference between then and now is that I understand what I OWN. Not a tech investment. Not a pump and dump that you have to time to make money. Just a true savings account that no one can take away from me.

During the last #Bitcoin bull run, many from the class of 2020 and 2021 learned to stack a several sats every single day via app rewards from Fold, Lolli, Smiles, Choice, ZBD, etc. These gaming or loot box style rewards would yield maybe 100-200 sats per day depending on your luck. Today, we can stack far greater amounts of sats on Nostr. The next Bitcoin class will learn about the value of stacking sats and want to join Nostr, because the potential to stack is far greater than other apps and methods mentioned above. People come to Bitcoin during the "Number go Up" phase and I believe this will directly corelate to Nostr's growth too.

Sys admin shit is hell.

Proxmox and its first VM working great... until it isn't. Spontaneously. Looks like everything is still running but the networking is getting knocked out.

Googling... specific ethernet controller + specific driver release = these failures. Sure, yeah, that classic "r8168 vs r8169" gotcha.

How do I install/revert to r8168? Enable `non-free-firmware` apt sources. But, what... can't resolve the domains? Total DNS failure... Oh, DNS server is set to localhost? Update to 8.8.8.8 (this is shit I'm surprised I know and am not happy it's taking space in my brain). Ah, now able to resolve DNS.

Cool, back to apt. Can't update from an unsecure repository? Okay, googling... edit `/etc/apt/sources.list` (again).

Nope, not there. Ah, remove the proxmox enterprise repos...

😂😂😂. I feel you on all of this. I’ve been a Windows sys admin for years and have only dabbled in Linux. I have been on similar rabbit holes many times and usually it ends with me getting pissed and quitting. Only to pick it back up again a few weeks later. Proxmox is cool and worth the work though!
