When in #portugal a person has to have a Port wine tasting towards the top of their list of things to do and of course drink.
Taylor's is the only winery that has a tasting room in Lisbon. Thus, I stopped by their shop and tried a vertical tawny port tasting -- 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50-year tawny ports.
Excellent introduction into understanding tawny ports and why a person may choose 10 versus a 20 versus a 50 --> younger is more fig and berry whereas the 20 quickly starts to show more caramel with the 50 a great caramel-driven wine to compliment a tiramisu.
Recommendations: 20-year is the best value followed by the 50-year
I also tried a 2001 vintage which gave an added floral nature to the wine. Loved it and grabbed a couple of bottles as gifts.

I ended up getting sick and couldn’t make it beyond Lisbon. At least I did stop by Taylor’s in Lisbon.
Yep that’s another winner.
Certain styles Sauv Blancs or Chards can pair very well.
Yes, a slightly sweet wine is great with spicy food. That’s why I always shake my head when Thai or Indian restaurants don’t have Riesling on their wine means. I’m not even asking for them to have a German Riesling.
Any suggestions for must-visit wine stops in Portugal? I’m looking for something more specific than “go to Porto”
Zaps for any help.

And btw - have you tasted many Paso wines? 😉
A nice Chianti with cheese ravioli is a great way to start the weekend.

2019 Vöcal “Alfaro Vineyard” Grüner Veltliner
Region: Santa Cruz Mountains
Dark yellow almost golden appearance.
Mildly citrusy nose - not quite an orange but less tangy than a lemon. The nose is complex with additional nutty, herbal, and lanolin aspects.
The palate is highly acidic, clean, and consistent from the beginning to the finish with a long finish. The flavors are similar to the nose but more fleshy and full with added tropical fruit which helps to balance the acid.
This wine surprised me with its complexity and overall quality. For my first experience of a wine from Vöcal — all I have to say is thank you. You made the start of my week much more enjoyable.

Good. We need to check your wines at least once per halving. 🤓
Natural sulfites (or minimal adds only if needed)?
Where’s my #winechain Cru tonight? What y’all having. 🍷🍷 I’m finishing off my Syrah from last night.
Although my response is a few days late, I thought that you would appreciate the line up of German Riesling, Armagnac, and a Santa Cruz Mtn Chardonnay that I enjoy on Tuesday.
