Schnor sigs (bundled with taproot) are required for PTLCs and taproot can make cooperative closes more private. But lightning was working with Segwit, taproot just makes it better

There's actually a very good explanation for the difference in "stupidity" between the markets for consumer goods and elections.
Doing research on consumer good directly benefits you: you learn seed oil/fluoride/soy is bad, stop eating it, feel better.
Doing research in politics has no effect because your vote only makes a difference in a vanishingly small number of cases. So there is no direct incentive to do research.
Imagine you have a friend and hang out with him all ghe time, and everyone knows you're friends because you're always doing cool stuff together -- then suddenly his brain is compromised (by propaganda or something) and he becomes a strong Nazism supporter going so far as to claim that he secretly supported it all along!, now you're looking like a nazist yourself.

I would risk my life for my "people" though, which I would determine by weighted genetic distance (immediate family gets the highest score but even people from different parts of the world get some score based on their genetic makeup).

Disagree and I'll explain why:
Safe implies notes outside the wot are dangerous, when really they're just spam.
Ideally all the "dangerous" notes (in the sense of challenging your current paradigm, or empowering you to resist authoritarian control) would be in your wot.
Censors would like you to think that "dangerous" means it may hurt someone's feelings, and that may be somewhat true, but it will be used as an excuse to also censor things "dangerous" in the good sense.
