Does anyone know of a tutorial or easy to deploy method for starting a Nostr Relay? Is it possible to get one going on a Raspberry Pi? I've fiddled with it on a couple of platforms but keep hitting snags that feel like they would require more copypasta solutions than I'm comfortable with.

Shoot, I didn't realize they were doing a sale today. They really need to do a better job of communicating sales ahead of time. 😀

I'm an idiot, I confused the client with the protocol. I didn't realize that Fedi was distinct from Fedimint, and that Fedi had released an app.

I didn't know such a thing existed... my research confirms it is magic. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Image for today's Expert Council show, my segment will talk about how people always fear every new technology.

I'd fear trying to read that compass/clock (clockass?), let alone operate it! Look forward to hearing your take.

Workout this morning,

2 rounds of

1 Mile followed by as many rounds as possible of:

5 pullups

10 pushups

15 air squats

3 minute rest between rounds

ran 7:25 and 8:31 mile

did 9 rds +10 reps

Not too bad after a month with almost no cardio and no running at all. We'll see how Murph goes next week.

The protocol has a deletion request. Each relay is free to accept or ignore that request. I have successfully deleted posts before. Nostr doesn't have a blockchain it's just stored as a database on each relay. Different clients may or may not display the option but if you request deletion on one client and the relay accepts it then it will not show on the other client. Nip-09 is the Nip associated with event deletion.

I see what you did there, well played.

If you were a member of the laptop class and didn't live in a draconian city it was probably pretty nice. A lot like being in college. You barely, if at all, had to work, you could hang out in your home and do whatever you wanted, order food delivered, binge watch all the shows, drink or do drugs, spend time with family and friends as long as you kept it discrete.

They got what we all want... to be left alone.

Unstoppable is a strong word I'd say resilient, but for different reasons than Bitcoin.

With Bitcoin each full node contains the record of all previous transactions that have been broadcast to the network. So one node could reconstitute the blockchain if something happened to all the rest of the network.

With Nostr each relay only contains notes that have been broadcast to it directly. The protocol does not specify cross talk between Relays (though it could happen if a relay operator wanted to). It is possible if you only subscribe to one relay and something happens to that relay for your notes to be lost. But if you subscribe to multiple relays then you are protected because you have backups. Nostr's resilience is twofold; your key pair and the siloed nature of each relay. Provided your key pair is secure you can't be impersonated. Anyone wanting to censor you would have to know all your subscribed relays or intervene physically.

Sorry for the long response I just find it all really interesting and that was the most concise I could be

Good luck, I get what you mean about missing out. I think the developers are working on some solutions to the discoverability problem, hopefully they figure something out soon.

There's two things that could be happening, one is that one of your clients is only showing original posts not reposts which could be a setting in an individual client in which case checking the settings would help. The other case, which is what you intuited, is that you don't have the relay for the original post in your client settings. I'm not sure how you would go about finding that relay

You'd have to take that up with the developer. But you could use a different client such as Amethyst or Plebster and have that client only set to your personal relay. If you also added that relay to Iris you could view it everywhere and all your public lists would be backed up on your personal relay.
