Boost, which I believe has fallen out of favor now, is a great example of why a lot of people think libraries are the antichrist. You include boost::string and suddenly your empty CPP file takes 40 seconds to compile because it dragged in 20 million lines of code behind it.

On the other hand there's a lot of fantastic "overhead free" libraries that follow the Unix philosophy. His attitude of "all libraries bad" is a really good way to bankrupt yourself in the year of our lord 2023.

This dude is allergic to libraries to a point of insanity. This has some benefits like him forbidding anyone from importing bloated frameworks in for one piece of functionality. On the other hand, he'll spend three weeks writing the worlds shittiest json parser. There is no reason on gods green earth to write your own json parser.

nostr:npub15fkerqqyp9mlh7n8xd6d5k9s27etuvaarvnp2vqed83dw9c603pqs5j9gr I work with a pretty high level engineer who started in the 80s and 90s. He carried over a lot of his old-timey tricks into our code. Some of it, like using printf, makes no sense anymore and is quite dangerous. Some of it is absolutely gold though. There's a lot of architectures he introduced that are shockingly simple but do way more than you'd expect and run retardedly fast.

The villains are treated as too nuanced for scorn to come across from them to me. Just listen to this monologue from the main villain. There is definitely an understanding of what a lot of people feel about today’s world that reads as more cautionary in the β€œbe careful of what you’re willing to do to make what’s right” way than the β€œChristianity is bad, Sunday school is boring, become an atheist, and pour coffee on yourself” way. In fact, you could even take from the game a Christian moral: when the Anti-Christ appears, we will be so inundated in sinful behavior that no one will be able to tell who he is, not even himself, so always be vigilant of what is right and lean not on your own or society’s understanding.
