Depends on the person. Generally I use the analogy of gold, and how money used to represent the energy to produce gold (i.e. the labor involved in gold mining). I explain to them that once this link was fully severed in 1971, those close to the fiat printing press have accumulated wealth at the expense of those furthest away from it. Bitcoin is not just created by pressing a button, as todays currencies are, but are created through energy, and one needs to show they have “worked” to mine it or they have had to pay someone else to get it. I also explain that bitcoin is superior to gold backed money as there, unlike gold, is a verifiable supply of it and it can be passed censorship free without permission to anyone in the world with an internet connection virtually cost less and which clears in just a few minutes.

Most of my friends are in their 40s and 50s and they only know the world of fiat. It is hard to change their minds as our brains get less plastic as one gets older. But this explanation often works.

Getting someone from the point of thinking it is a scam to understanding bitcoin is the best money ever created.

I get overly excited about new things and really dive into the hype. Later I realize it’s just that - hype.

Ok folks, need your best advice here. I just met a guy at a July 4th event in upstate NY. He’s basically like a community elder in these parts - well respected in the rural community, and in fact is the guy who threw this big bash on his 500 acre property.

He’s super warm and friendly, libertarian, goldbug, open carries on his property. I spent 20 min trying to orange pill him because if I can get to him, I can unlock a giant swathe of rural upstate NY - he’s that influential here.

He asked me to send him some resources to learn more about bitcoin. I can of course send him all the stuff that orange pilled me, but I want to be more thoughtful and targeted here because there could a real opportunity to capture this part of the state.

What would be the most appropriate material I can send him based on my description of him? Something from Texas Slim? Anything else that might fit the bill - articles, podcasts, etc?

The first time I ever stepped foot into United States was on the 4th of July. I didn’t realize it then, but looking back it feels symbolic.

I will never forget that day. We flew into Chicago. I recall seeing the city Skyline and the shores of Lake Michigan. A sight to behold.

I knew nothing of racism, of left, of right. I only saw people. A diverse people. A kind, and welcoming people.

I also recall being amazed at seeing grocery stores full of food and you could just pick up anything you like and put in a basket / cart. It was just sitting out there… and you could walk among the isles and grab anything your stomach desired. So much food.

Little did I know, on this day we would eat a lot of food and be around warm and welcoming people.

We’d also go on boats, eat some more food and enjoy the fireworks. So much food.

It may be imperfect in so many ways, but it is the nation I feel most at home.
