Ok folks, need your best advice here. I just met a guy at a July 4th event in upstate NY. He’s basically like a community elder in these parts - well respected in the rural community, and in fact is the guy who threw this big bash on his 500 acre property.

He’s super warm and friendly, libertarian, goldbug, open carries on his property. I spent 20 min trying to orange pill him because if I can get to him, I can unlock a giant swathe of rural upstate NY - he’s that influential here.

He asked me to send him some resources to learn more about bitcoin. I can of course send him all the stuff that orange pilled me, but I want to be more thoughtful and targeted here because there could a real opportunity to capture this part of the state.

What would be the most appropriate material I can send him based on my description of him? Something from Texas Slim? Anything else that might fit the bill - articles, podcasts, etc?

I still believe The Bitcoin Standard is one of the best resources. The Seventh Property is also equally good.

I was definitely thinking the Bitcoin Standard. Is there anything shorter that would appeal to someone with his profile?

What is money podcast? Ep 1-7

Possibly try: https://bitcoin.rocks/

This seems well thought out

I have had no luck Orange pilling anyone.

The best time to try is in a bear market! At least they are buying low.

This is one of the best Bitcoin interviews I’ve ever heard. I still listen to it frequently. I think a gold bug will appreciate the history of money, and an explanation of why Bitcoin is better.

Oh yes, that’s a great one!

Send him 21 Lessons by Der Gigi

Anything else is a waste of time to begin.

Yeah, love both of those, but I’m not sure they’d be a great starter for this guy

I would find articles and podcasts that focus on how Bitcoin is better than owning physical property/land. He seems to value land ownership and understands what he needs to do to keep it in his possession.

I’m sure he’s fully aware, that the only thing that protects his land from being taken is a piece of paper. What if he could own land that no one has given him the right to own? What if his property is protected by a wall of energy and can’t be confiscated and he can be take it with him wherever he goes?

I would approach him from this angle. Bitcoin is land. It is property, without the physical limitations.

Makes a lot of sense

I’m going to generalize, but in my experience, the most important thing to people who live rurally and depend on the land for their survival is the protection of their property rights. If you approach him from this angle, it will probably resonate with him. It did for me when I first started learning, and has helped me orange pill some people.

Keep fighting the good fight Avi!

Sage advice, good sir 🙏

🤙🫂

Send him a saylor interview 😂

Yes, I just need to find the right one that appeals to this guy and is easily digestible

The Bitcoin Miami speech was pretty good and comes with slides🛝!

Inventing Bitcoin is my very favorite. Layered Money is also great.

Yes, those are great! 🙏

The first dozen or so “what is Money” pods with Michael Saylor might be good here. I say that because in it the question is asked, where could you have held gold for the last 150 years without it being confiscated? Just Switzerland. Also has great insights about game-changing technologies. He could follow that with the price of tomorrow if his head is still in the game.

I haven’t read this so it’s a dicey recommendation. But if he is a libertarian he may appreciate “The Denationalisation of Money” by Friedrich Hayek (1976). He theorized a denationalized private money. The other Bitcoin specific resources you may also provide him would then argue that Bitcoin is that “private money” that Hayek was advocating.

Thank you for the sats sir.

This one is really good.

I feel like this would be like trying to orange pill my dad. I think it's about asking the right questions. If he doesn't value Bitcoin at all yet, if he's not even curious, then books and podcasts probably won't help. If he's open, and if he likes to read, a book is a good way to go. I found The Fiat Standard easier to read than the Bitcoin standard. I know there are easier options too, that may be more interesting (I guess it depends how much this person likes to read) 😊

Does he have children or grandchildren? Maybe he has family that are struggling somewhere. Maybe not. 🤷‍♀️

Also, some wealthy people just cannot see how life can be financially hard for anyone else. Some have created their wealth through such hard work and have come from such hard times they refuse to look at anything that isn't doing well. I know this first hand.

It's a tricky one. Keep having the conversations. You never know when something might get through and unlock the curiosity. I do think this journey is all about planting the seeds. 🌱

When someone is motivated enough, they will start to learn and read the books, listen to the podcasts and start asking more questions. 🧡

He was definitely open to it. I’ll try meet him again and keep the conversation going. Thanks!

Yes keep that conversation happening. Sometimes good things take time... And he probably appreciates you taking that time more than you know 🧡🙌

Ask him to install a lightning wallet (super easy) and you post his address here, then we smash him with zaps. He sees how easy it is and maybe the value of it as a tool of freedom.

I’d be curious to understand more about what problems bitcoin could help him with in his life or what opportunities he may find appealing/useful (his money is truly his own, rare asset, generational wealth opportunity, community empowering tool, etc). If he can connect with it personally, then he may be more likely to share it with his community.

Agreed. I have his contact info, so I’ll try find more time with him to talk about this

You might ask him how he understands Haggai 1:6

You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but no one gets warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”

Fiat is the purse with holes.

Id keep it simple. Its a new currency created by coders that is not controlled by anyone. Been going on for around 14 years. Fixed, cheap to verify supply. The value of it is entirely based on demand. Government cannot confiscate with a button press. A hacker cannot "hack" bitcoin. There are miners but thats complicated. For now he can know they secure the network by running the software. Its gold with wings.

How to convince him to start using Bitcoin is easy, tell him to install the Wallet of satoshi, send him some satoshis. Tell him that Bitcoin is real digital money, that it cannot be held by any bank and only you have control of it, tell him that it is totally secure because your transactions use the blockchain, to make him understand better tell him that it is like a ledger. Tell him that Bitcoin is friendly to everyone. He could start using all the information from Bitcoin Magazine so that he is aware of all the new news about Bitcoin and also download the application to earn some satoshis. Tell him that Bitcoin is something real, a new technology, but at the same time money, innovation, tell him also that Bitcoin is in computers and cannot be manipulated or corrupted, tell him that Bitcoin is the future of financial transactions and it is already here among us. 🙌🏻#zap #bitcoin

Not sure if this will get someone from 0-100% orange pill, but it will certainly grab some attention from the ideas there. For something targeted, clip this video from 2:05 - 9:30.

Yes, that segment is fantastic!

Breedlove/pysh ep1 of btc fundamentals is great. Ditto saifedean on lex. Saylor series on breedlove. Odell/svetski/Francis may resonate with his love for freedom and distrust of the state. Vijays bullish case for Bitcoin is a great medium length read that hits so many high notes. Parker lewis. I love hope.com as a comprehensive resource.

Probably easier to give him a demo. A libertarian going to love not needing a bank to transfer wealth. I came to btc as a way to get rich but now view it more like insurance against corruption.
