The answer to "how do we stop them" is also you can't. You can only filter in the client/receiver. There is nothing anyone can do to block speech from machines. False/Misleading information will easily overtake real info.

Yes. Our goal, as humanity, is to not *have* to work at all anymore. You can always work if you want to. But you shouldn't need to.

Yes. Humans are just an intermediary species in the long history of the universe. We don't have the power to stop evolution. Don't think our "control" is designed to last. In the same way our bodies are too weak for today's world (we need tools for everything), our brains will be too dumb for future worlds. Let's just hope we make good pets.

What is a good threshold for a significant PoW that deserves to be shown on the screen? Is PoW-8 (8 bits being zero) a good minimum threshold?

Posts can have a number of zeros in the event id. The bigger the amount, the harder the sender spent in energy to send the post.

Proof-of-work is hard to beat. Look at all the spam emails we get. I don't understand why it's not consensus, as we all have some computing power at our fingertips.
