mises.org: Government Prohibitions on Raw Milk Are Ignorant and Dangerous -- http://tinyurl.com/yvyb76pg -- “Salus populi suprema lex.” The health of the people is the supreme law.As ruling ideals go, this is a good one. Unfortunately, the governing class in America decided long ago that raw milk—one of nature’s most perfectly nutritious substances—must be regulated and prohibited to the point of making it nearly impossible to obtain. In its place, they teamed with the dairy industry to promote pasteurized milk, a lifeless liquid so devoid of the natural beneficial compounds found in raw milk that it should more accurately be called a “milk-like substance.”In spite of government restrictions, free #liberty #news
Our milk cow is the center of our farm. She turns pasture into a densely nutritious food that feeds us, our pigs, chickens, dogs, and (if anything is leftover) the garden. Grass-fed raw milk is health and freedom.

You are kind. I will look into it.
All our animals are raised on pasture and rotationally grazed. We provide good food, minerals, fresh water and a healthy environment. We don't vaccinate. Over two years into this we have had many births and no losses to illness (other than chickens).
What breed of hog do you raise? We have Large Blacks.
We homeschooled our 3 boys. They are grown and on their own. The best thing I ever did.
Farm raised is the best. Hard work, but more than worth it.
I grew up in the 80's. We were told fat was bad. Carbs were good. And for a period of time eggs were bad. Teflon pans were a technological advancement.
Today's breakfast is eggs fried in lard (from our farm raised hogs) in a cast iron skillet.
Keep learning.
Question everything.
Eat real food.

I hear ya. Do what you can to be resilient in your little corner of the world.
Making Lentil Curry for lunch. Dinner will be home grown pork chops with colcannon (potatoes, cabbage and onions from the farm.)
Anything specific? Or just an ominous feeling. I am interested in your thoughts.
Morning chores - view from the chicken run.
It may be freezing, but the view is spectacular.

Truth! It's a beautiful thing.
This past year I have been drawn to the many ways agricultural/seasonal living is intertwined with my Catholic faith.
Today marks the beginning of Ember Days - a period of prayer, fasting, and thanksgiving that marks the passage of the seasons.
We are preparing for the feast of Christmas while at the same time marking the winter solstice. A festive season of light while plunged in darkness.
I am thankful for last year's harvest while anticipating next year's garden.
It is a season of stark contrast.
Enjoy your seasons.

I don't. 😁 Covering with insect netting in summer and a frost cover in winter helps. Surprisingly this one only had a few slugs nestled in at its base.
I hope to be more and more diligent with insect covers as the years progress. I am happy to have something this year since last year's fall garden was a bust.

Head of cabbage harvested from the garden.
Seeds started indoors in July.
Seedling transplanted outside in August.
Watered when the ground is too dry.
Covered to protect from freeze.
Harvested for dinner tonight.
Outer leaves shared with the cows.
Plant your seeds.
Tend your garden.
