Emergency update!

#NoorNote or #NoorSigner on macOS doesn't store the nsec in the Keychain like some other Nostr clients do, but it does store the NWC string there. That totally slipped by me because of my blind spot. I've got everything iCloud related disabled on my Mac, but I completely overlooked that most Mac users aren't even aware if their Keychain is syncing to iCloud. And it's a well known fact that Apple has access to those so called 'encrypted' iCloud data. Shame on me.

So now you can migrate your NWC storage from the Keychain to a local encrypted file (which is also a cool advantage of a desktop client). Just go to 'Settings', then 'Zaps', and flip the switch. That's it.

Download it here: https://github.com/77elements/noornote/releases/tag/v0.3.7

Besides that, version 0.3.7 includes:

New Features

- File-based NWC storage option - Store your Lightning wallet connection in an encrypted local file instead of the system keychain. Recommended for Mac users who sync their keychain to iCloud.

- Tribe member management in Profile View - Add or remove users from your tribes directly from their profile page.

- Quick sync mode switching - Switch between Easy Mode and Manual Mode for list synchronization directly from the list view without going to Settings.

Improvements

- iCloud warning for Mac users - NWC settings now display a warning for Mac users about potential iCloud keychain syncing risks.

- Migrated from npm to bun - Faster builds and package management.

Bug Fixes

- Easy Mode bookmark sync - Fixed automatic sync not applying folder assignments and corrected folder item counts.

- DM dropdown menu positioning - Fixed menu appearing in wrong position.

- Video fullscreen - Fixed fullscreen video playback issues.

Re: the encryption, pardon my laziness but what are you encrypting with? npub?

confirmed that iit minimizes the window. This is still not canonical UX but better than before.

A banking app that *requires* precise location permission is developed either by a stupid team, or by a malicious team. Hopefully it's the former.

And this one is easy to fix: The X button (the close button?) behaviour. On macs, if you click X on a window, the canonical behavior is for the window to close/hide. It should not quit the application (You choose "Quit" from the application menu or use "Cmd + Q") to quit.

I keep quitting NoorNote because I am used to using the X button to hide windows. But then I have to relaunch and re-enter my signer password.

Note: I am reporting these issues under the assumption that you want the feedback. let me know if it is a nuisance and I'll stop.

your original note does not talk about a particular bank (e.g., Chase). that would make it a true equivalance.

I agree with the sentiment. that Fiat is indeed problematic and should be replaced.

reporting another bug :-) 0.3.3 on mac.

shortcuts should be handled in correct context. For example,

1. Open the new note or reply popup (the one that has a textbox to type).

2. type some gibberish.

3. You want to select text to the beginning of line so that you can start typing over it so you press "Cmd + Shift + Left"

Instead of selecting text to the beginning of line, noor note captures it as command input on the UI behind it.

A hyperbole with a false equivalence.

One is a product, the other is one company making a product. people boycotting starbucks are not boycotting coffee.

also boycotting fiat is considerably more difficult than boycotting a private company.

the animal looks like a dog, or a wolf, but it's so small, that it must be the size of a rat!

Public Key Infrastructure. the system of certificates, public keys/private keys, signatures, etc.

May the new year be better than the last. May the people of Gaza, Sudan, Libya, and everywhere get peace and freedom. And may Allah give us the strength to stand against evil.

You jest but some people may think you're serious.

Looks suspicious. If they are sending you sats/tokens, why do they need you to sign a transaction. nostr:note1lxm5j5ecmdu0692uztnufcgqqka04dpedlvr07h03v9yfa8kqd2qvfq8ml

Enkrypt plugin seems to have a bug, has started showing 0 Bitcoin (BTC) balance.

Ethereum (ETH) balance shows up fine.

#NoorNote first impression:

+ Signer: setup is straight forward

+ System Logs: make it easy to see under the hood

Improvement Suggestions:

- NoorNote seems to capture some (all?) shortcuts even though it is not in focus. Example: NoorNote is the top window on the other screen. On the current screen, when typing in SublimeText, Cmd + Left (to go to the beginning of the line )doesn't work because NoorNote handles it (it goes back).

- The Right pane (with system logs) seems under utilized e.g., tap on a thread in the timeline could open the full thread on the right vis-a-vis a mail client. It would be good to be able to open multiple threads in multiple tabs e.g., by doubl clicking.

Microsoft now asks you to pay 10 dollars to change your gamertag. I miss the 90s so much.

You're right, I had to go to dashboard, then tap on the dropdown menu (in the top nav bar) to choose "Bookmarks". Thank you.

There is an opportunity here for Pakistan, and other markets where Amazon has no presence, to come up with its own alternatives. Build a more transparent and ethical platfom.

The initial impression was wring. Primal has its own set of issue (like a note and then tap again to undo the like, not working. Editing a post not working).

Have started using Primal (omn Android), initial impression is good. It shows the notifications that Amethyst fails to show for some reason. The profile page also seems to beess temperamental.

got to love the hyperbolic headlines. And quantum computing community loves to portray doom-and-gloom, see e.g., https://quantumdoomclock.com/explanation .

cryptography is fine, we’ll have migrated to PQC by the time a quantum computer is able to break real world systems.

Gemma (offline version of Gemini) keeps referring to me as Alex, despite my corrections that my name isn't Alex.

Offline models are more prone to hallucinations.
