The ratio between kilo watts and hashes per second should not come out of scale. If it does happen, it is no longer profitable to mine coins, including those based on #PoS (proof-of-stake). Sure Bitcoin isn't perfect, nobody said that. Wth #PoW it becomes harder and harder to actually make a small profit because you have to buy yourself bigger miners, even when their hash rate per kilo watts is already improving and you definitely running better with them instead of thousands of smaller miners (remember those little ones you can plug into an USB port and have to cool them externally?) but still 1 KW is one KW to be paid through electricity bill. If I don't earn enough coins with it, it is just an expensive hobby, nothing more or less.
