trying new things

was born too late to experience IRC but I imagine bitchat and #21m is close to it

What I like is that it's very open to different topics. I'm interested in Bitcoin, but I don't want to receive updates every minute on just that topic. For the moment, I find that my feed is gradually balancing Bitcoin with other topics that interest me.

What I like less is that, aside from interactions, I have no idea how many people see what I post. Sometimes I wonder if my content is actually viewed by followers or if they just followed me so I'd follow them back. I'd like to have access to more statistics.

Also, I often read that likes are useless and that Zaps are needed. I appreciate Zaps, but so are likes. Perhaps "Likes 🧡" could have been replaced with "Views 👀" on Nostr if we really wanted to distinguish quality content rewarded with Zaps from more common content that we still want to discover every day.

I'm new from traditional social media, so without Zaps, and all the reactions were pleasing. Here, I sometimes have trouble telling the difference between someone who appreciates what I post and someone who just wants to get my attention.

Same as a viewer: I see a lot of content (memes, photos, quotes, etc.) without explanation or personalization. I wonder if these are real people posting original content or just bots who repeatedly post (or repost) content taken from here and there on other platforms.

In short, what I'd like is to be able to assess whether my content truly belongs on Nostr or whether I'm posting in the void.

For other users, I'll gradually refine my list to focus on original content and free up space to discover new users.

"In short, what I'd like is to be able to assess whether my content truly belongs on Nostr or whether I'm posting in the void."

100% agree with this. Also, as somebody who isn't as interested in Bitcoin topics, I've found it difficult to find content I'm interested in so far (sports, research/papers related to ML, etc.). Part of me thinks this content just isn't on Nostr yet

I feel like they lack structural incentives to give up control. Giving up control weakens network adoption and potential monetization. It feels like all roads lead through Bluesky PBC or Merkle for single points of failure

Could be wrong! Would love to hear your take

Decentralized social event in Chicago🔥

Got a decent turnout to talk about atproto, Nostr, and farcaster

I'm late to this, but is Farcaster just Bluesky for eth bros?

Both are VC-backed protocol / client development efforts with a lack of credible decentralization incentives?

Additionally, I think connecting with large content creators would be great. They've seen firsthand the impact of de-platforming and de-monetization, and if they knew a solution existed I'm sure they'd use it.

Even they simply posted across platforms as a form of insurance that's a win too.

It's 100% worth it to get a big time streamer or content creator here.

I only thought about it because so much startup is advice is about solving “problems” and I disagreed because not everything is a true painkiller; the supplements market is huge.

When I started thinking of everything as a puzzle, it started to make more sense

greetings from Chicago

Everything in life is a puzzle. Not being able to solve a puzzle, or being slow at solving puzzles, can be frustrating. Being able to solve puzzles faster allows you to solve more puzzles.

Those who have the ingenuity to solve puzzles, the ingenuity to create shortcuts to solve puzzles faster, or the ingenuity to create guides/blueprints to solve puzzles yourself, will have people willing to give them value in exchange for alleviating their frustration of not being able to solve the puzzle quickly, or not being able to solve the puzzle at all.

There can be multiple ways to solve the same puzzle.

Losing weight is a puzzle. There is no “one way” to lose weight. Supplements are short cuts, diets and exercise routines are blueprints, etc.

Solve puzzles.

Had this issue when I first joined, took a lot of work to find content not bitcoin or even Nostr related.

Don’t see the avg person taking the time I did. With that said, I think more engaging apps will be built soon

I love Nostr because it's one of the few tech-forward places without any VCs lmao

all the startups I see on here are posting with their customers in mind and without trying to "signal" to potential investors

it's such a breath of fresh air

we NEED to capitalize on these moments, this is what we are no good at

all this youtube/spotify stuff should be our time to be OFF of Nostr, on the traditional platforms, educating.

why we don't do this is beyond me

would be fun to see the ratio of lurkers across platforms

# of posters/ # of accounts

which would have the greatest ratio? Linkedin?

Everyday I see posts where the author is complaining about problems decentralized protocols like #Nostr solve.

Corporate incentives do not align with what creators and writers truly need:

- full autonomy over their content (owned by the creator)

- p2p transactions (direct payments)

- free speech (let me post what I want)

- no opaque algorithms (show the content I subscribe to)

IMO, we need to be educating people OFF of Nostr more than we currently are
