These outcomes are inevitable. Trumps only choice is if he gets to take responsibility for the loss.
Prolonging it means more dead Ukrainians and the risk of Trumps presidency being sucked into the war, consuming all of his energy and keeping him away from the internal issues that urgently need his attention.
On the the other hand, quietly winding it down and letting the Russians mop up the mess gives him ability to pin the loss on Joe and strike a heavy blow on the Washington blob that that he detests.
If he is honest about his ambitions for internal reform then the latter would be his obvious choice. You can't have change domestically and lead a war at the same time.
His time window is shrinking.
