Also they are from mostr.pub.
They’re not even posting to Nostr directly.
I’m not sure they will see your replies.
That’s what mute is for. Anyone can join.
I mean, I would hope so for that? lol.
Can someone publish a book on Nostr?
The world is open to using pairs of cryptographic keys for user authentication.
Slowly then suddenly.
https://github.blog/2023-09-21-passkeys-are-generally-available/
Cool, do we see a future where we can log into nostr with a passkey client or is that not possible with the keys that are being used?
And yet it just shows a bunch of letters and numbers of who is being quoted.
We will get there someday!
I was agreeing with him vs the other person in the thread.
How often are client devs all meeting together to work on Nostr? Do you all meet like one a month on Nostr Nests or anything like that?
Just because the user experience is bad in its infancy doesn’t mean it’s doomed.
Probably will at least create more confusion in the clients that already causes issues. What other clients are already planing this with yours?
What early access have they been given?
I’ve been sending TestFlight bug reports throughout the beta. Do they even remotely help?
I spoke with nostr:npub12262qa4uhw7u8gdwlgmntqtv7aye8vdcmvszkqwgs0zchel6mz7s6cgrkj about his reasoning to remove GiftWrapped messages from eden.nostr.land. It's not that he doesn't want users to have private conversations and it's not that he's censoring content. It's that he doesn't want to unknowingly store images on his relay.
I've said since the beginning that NIP-95 is a great solution for decentralizing our images, however I've also said that it's bad form to make relay operators store binary data when they didn't originally intend to do so. Relay operators should have a choice in that matter as it will drastically increase their operating costs. With GiftWrapped messages, relay operators could technically store binary data, since they have no clue what type of content they're storing. The message could be a really long message or small image.
GiftWrapping is more than DMs.
I get it now.
This is why we have these discussions to hash things out and to learn. This is how the protocol grows and we end up reaching consensus on how to move forward for all to benefit.
I'll be adding eden back to my relay list... for now 😉
100% that makes sense.
How do other private messaging apps get away with hosting encrypted images? Are they just lawyered up enough to point to the fine print?
This is the fun part of an open system. If it was a closed system, the decision could be made to implement giftwraps as long as image hosting was not implemented but that’s just not possible to do here. Both can and will happen and maybe the way nostr:npub12262qa4uhw7u8gdwlgmntqtv7aye8vdcmvszkqwgs0zchel6mz7s6cgrkj is handling it by saying no at the relay makes sense.
Why would that be any better? If you’re going to host, then host.
nostr:npub1earna05hx6ax38r33h3atmecjzdu547m8suw87w70aw6mlyga4hsqcja5j won't be the only Nostr client to custody keys for users. Even if ZBD plans on allowing users to export their keys at a later date, at some point we will most likely see another Nostr client that won't allow this. They may even clearly state this in their business model. The beauty of Nostr is that it's truly open. That means any client can be built in any shape or fashion that fits their user's needs. The free market will prevail here though, I think. Users will want to try other experiences and advocate for their clients to allow them to do this. And if they don't, those clients may not make it. Freedom and user choice will prevail.
It is an open protocol. What is so hard for people to understand that means in can be used against your cause?
There will be several custodial Nostr clients, it’s only a matter of time.
They may unfortunately be even be more popular than non-custodial someday.
The key is to make the experience better on non-custodial apps than on the custodial apps.
Email works better custodial, web hosting works better custodial, there is another chance to overcome those two issues and more with making Nostr better as non-custodial.
That will be possible when we acknowledge the serious user experience issues with non-custodial and work to constantly make the experience better than custodial.
ZBD solves many experience issues for its users and ignoring that is doing us a disservice.
Ag, that explains why he was relying to seemingly nothing. I just thought it was an issue loading notes. It was definitely confusing! Very cool though!
