I haven't mined btc in over 10 years!

I'm perhaps not the best person to ask, but I can share a few things.
Good SSDs can last a really long time, the common killer is write cycles(they can only be written to so many times). Different applications have different behavior when it comes to writes. With a bitcoin node, IIRC the blockchain itself is going to be write-once, meaning once the data is written its not likely to change. Indexes and such may be updated as frequently as a new block is written to the chain however. I don't think that's a lot of write cycles except the original block download. When we are talking concerns for write cycles, we are normally talking about something getting rewritten over and over again, like for example rows in a database that are constantly changing. Swap/virtual memory from the operating system could be another example. There might be some database/indexes for the blockchain, but I doubt they are going to be the amount of writes to cause me concern.
SSDs should generally run cooler than HDD, and provide better performance in general. Also use less power.
Hard drives have a shelf life based on several different things. How long its been spinning. Start count. Stop count. Heat. Perhaps 3-4 years is a good life time for a hard drive. A higher storage hard drive may be slightly more likely to fail due to the required accuracy of the head, as well as (if the storage is consumed) more movement of the heads and such. Also, watch out for SMR drives which I don't recommend.
I would never rely on just one drive, SSDor HDD. Always get two and do a RAID, I recommend ZFS or BTRFS to prevent bit rot. Bits flip more often than people realize. Raid is not a backup, raid can keep you running when eventually one drive does die. All drives eventually die.
Backups: no matter the storage solution, I recommend offline backups of critical data taken regulary. I'm not certain its necessary to backup the blockchain (thousands of nodes are doing that for you already) unless you need it back FAST.
Long story short, I think good quality SSDs are perhaps the way to go for just a bitcoin node where you are concerned about heat, noise, and power consumption. I might have a different answer for databases, or file servers, depending on what's getting stored and how its being written, and how much space you need.
I run two bitcoin nodes, both are on HDD, because I don't care about speed, power, noise, heat, and I've got a good raid setup as well as good backups. I save the SSDs for gaming and higher perf applications instead.

Ice sea!
The problem with socialism is that in order to survive, they must force good/services/labor from those members of society who are most productive.
Socialism is by its own definition self-consuming... The productive members of society feel like they deserve more bread than unproductive members, so they stop working... In order to maintain control and reduce the starving of the population, punishment begins in order to extract value from the people to support the society.
Capitalism has its own problems, like insane incentive structures (marketing, advertising, data collection), as well as things like companies pumping money out of the government. A good capitalism prevents monopolies and duopolies, unfair business practices, and protects consumers.

I've been busy. Today I tried my hand at painting for a work team building event. Acrylic on Canvas. A day at the beach.

Back from my trip, sipping coffee, house is listed. I have a couple plumbing things to fix.
A friend told me Ace Hardware often has hard-to-find plumbing parts, so perhaps ill try that today. Thats for valves for the freestanding bathtub faucet.
As well, never buy rutsjon sink with hemnes vanity from ikea. They dont work together. Im cutting a notch in the back of the drawer so the drawer can close. After looking at the other sinks, Ikea's newer overflow model on all their sinks doesnt seem to work with hemnes vanity at all...

My family was talking about inflation today... And how the federal reserve helps maintain a good economy for everyone.
So I wrote this to them...
The costs of goods and services should naturally decrease over time. A loaf of bread used to cost 25 cents, this was back when the wheat was sewn by hand, picked by hand, and ground by a wind or water. Wheat is now grown genetically modified and with insecticides to increase yield, mass-harvested with automatic combines, ground in large quantities in giant mills, baked in industrial ovens, and shipped mass quantities to your local supermarket for $5. Where did the cost savings go of doing things a more efficient way??Economies are naturally deflationary. #Inflation is both abnormal and theft.
GM nostriches.
Last night, the tile guy called in sick. So....
nostr:nprofile1qqs8l8w08udxwm5um5dj2xerrme7mca53j6nmmver9tf5r944vch6cgpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezumt0d5hs98062v and I grouted the tile in the master bathroom. Today is installing and painting all the baseboards, installing bathroom fixtures, and then cleaning the whole house. The photographer comes tomorrow, and the open house is on Saturday. Wish me luck!

How do we force code owners to change their code? How do we force relays configuration to send notifications on deletes. I think this is a nonstarter because it presupposes any ability to control others (namely relay operators). Even if it got added to the protocol spec, nobody HAS to implement it. I just dont see how this is possible... If we could FORCE relay operators to send notifications on deletes, then what else could we FORCE them to do? Slippery slope IMO.
#Nostr is the bazaar model. Anything goes, and there is very little control. I think really what needs to happen here is that if you want to have the ability to control what gets deleted and why, then you setup your own relay. If you want to notify people on deletes, do it, and advertise it so people use your relay over other relays.
Tiles cut, mortared, and replaced! Not perfect, but better than having the wrong tile. I also learned a useful skill!

And then I cleaned up the thinset so tomorrow I have a nice flat surface to work from. Tomorrow I mix mortar and cut tile (perhaps not in that order).

Haha, I'm learning to lay tile tomorrow. :D
Divorce is complicated... Suffice it to say she moved out 22 months ago, and somehow that makes it ok to force me out of the home. Dont want to get into all the nitty gritty details, but between alimony, child support, paying her legal fees, and being forced to repair the home from the damages she stole the insurance claim money from...
I'm going to keep doing what I do best. I'm a maker, not a taker. So I'm going to make.
So what did I do? I've never laid tile before in my life. The tile guy won't be back until Wednesday, 2 days before listing.... So its time for me to roll up my sleeves, and learn by doing...
I removed the tiles (the thinset mortar was still a little wet which made it much easier)
Here, maybe you can see it now...

Yes, because its not just me that will take the hit, but my divorcing spouse, who will no doubt make a stink about it in court and find more ways to take more from me.
