Don't get too pumped about Trump speaking at this year's nostr:npub1rwh33t5x8n7czknhts5fg0v0fml8mkl7neaarksumkkf8d679qrqcz7avv, there are forces in motion that could severely impact the bitcoin industry if people don't begin to make noise.

Earlier today there was a Senate Agriculture Committee hearing on Oversight of Digital Commodities with the head of the CFTC that everyone should watch.

If the legislation that is inevitably going to come out of this hearing gets passed it won't matter if Trump gets into office. The industry will be hindered for years. There is bi-partisan support at the moment as Democrats are moving quickly to react to the buzz Republicans have received due to their embrace of bitcoin.

Long story short, this committee is pushing to give the CFTC regulatory oversight over spot bitcoin markets, which is an unprecedented expansion of CFTC authority into retail commodities trades whereas in the past they have exclusively had jurisdiction over only commodities derivatives markets.

If the CFTC is granted this expansion of authority it would mean that they are likely going to require any bitcoin company to register with the federal government and have enhanced KYC/AML requirements. To be clear, this won't only affect exchanges, but any company that touches spot bitcoin.

These efforts are being spearheaded on the crypto side via lobbying efforts by Kraken, Coinbase and Ripple. Not shocking because this would likely enable them to trivially erect regulatory moats.

It looks like the bi-partisan effort will be looking to pass something through the House and into law rather quickly. Likely before the election.

It is imperative that you speak out against this as it would increase the regulatory and compliance burdens on US bitcoin companies considerably. The best move right now is no action. We need less regulation, not more. As we've seen time and time again throughout the first 15-years of bitcoin, these regulations but users in harm's way and make it unreasonably difficult for companies to operate cheaply and effectively.

Call you Representative and tell them to reject any bill that would give the CFTC oversight over spot bitcoin markets. This is a full on attack.

Here is another demo of my NIP implementation.

Now using ephemeral events, NIP-44 encryption and NIP-59 gift wraps:

https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/1276

I suggest we’ll call it NIP-80 after the default http port.

Imagine future browsers ( #browstr ) allowing you to enter http://.nostr/… and it would simply send the http request and receive the response via nostr events! Just like .onion sites but without the slowness of TOR.

It can also be useful for #iot devices that can serve a simple configuration-website and allow “browsing” them from anywhere in the world. I think TOR is too complicated to run on such devices.

Pretty good privacy flow that covers *most* average Bitcoin use cases 👇

BUY 🤖 - For use when you want to obtain sats that are not tied to your personal identity #noKYConly

➡️ Robosats Trade > Use proxy invoice when withdrawing to own your node > Accumulate/spend from own node.

SPEND 🪙 - For use when you want to use Bitcoin as money

➡️ Not too much to say here, LN has good base level sender privacy when using your own node.

STORE 🧊 - For use when your node balance gets close to channel capacity, or to a value that you want to move to cold storage

➡️ Carry out atomic swap on something like https://boltz.exchange (use the .onion address) to go from your Lightning channel balance, straight to an address controlled by your hardware wallet. Boltz has a 0.5% service fee, plus you'll of course need to pay miner fees, which are negligible at the time of writing.

NOTES 📔

🟧 Your purchase sizes are limited by your inbound liquidity. Plan ahead!

🟧 If you don't want to or can't run a node, swap out that step for a nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5 Olympus channel with a lightweight node on your phone. I recommend Zeus because spends from there are more private than in Phoenix due to client side path finding

🟧 When using the proxy invoice feature in Robosats, you may need to adjust routing fee and proxy provider allowances slightly

Happy to take questions or comments. Put down the CashApp and give it a go anon, I dare you!

I think Bitcoin brings about something that was not really possible before - Anonymous monetary gifting.

In normal gifting, the receiver generally feels a reciprocal burden. The need/desire to even the score. Whether that's explicit or implicit, that burden cannot be escaped because the receiver knows who gifted him the value (the author talks about this). It may be repaid by a future gift or future favour but the sense of obligation is hard to avoid. Reciprocity is hardwired into our behaviors as social creatures.

To be able to give unconditionally while still allowing for the reciprocity to be paid (anonymously or otherwise) is pretty special. Value is subjective & providing value to another can provide value in & of itself. I give for the selfish reason that it feels good to give, I do not do it from some altruistic quality I posses.

Prior to Bitcoin, I'd need to provide a physical location for reciprocal gifts to be placed anonymously. This requires the consumer to donate there & then. They cannot donate 2 days later in bed when they feel a random sense of gratitude & desire to reciprocate. If I don't provide a way to reciprocate, the gift is not enjoyed as much by those who now feel a sense of obligation. I feel this discomfort & it impacts the value I experience from giving because of the perceived burden.

Take the Assange donation of 8 BTC to cover the debt forced onto him by the Aus gov. He cannot know specifically who donated the money. If he feels a sense of obligation around this gift, he can only pay it forward in a general sense. He cannot directly provide value back to the gifter. There are also no conditions tied to the gift & if someone later tries to claim there are, the gift cannot be rescinded (Bitcoin's finality of settlement). Unconditional giving is a beautiful act that was not easily achieved before Bitcoin.

I'm a little disappointed that the author didn't mention Bitcoin in the 468 page paper. I guess we're still early.
