Universal basic income. Got it. *sigh* people always want dad to take care of everything and then get mad when he fucks it all up

I feel that cold plunging becomes a high maintenance hobby especially if you get a cold plunger for at home use. I could take them or leave them. Plus if you have running water or live somewhere cold, just take cold showers and embrace wearing only a hoodie and pants in the winter. You’ll get plenty of cold in a cheaper, more organic way without having another hobby to maintain.

Moment of vulnerability here, wondering if anyone has had a similar experience before.

I completely LOST it on another person's kid today when I thought they had intentionally hurt my daughter, but I was wrong and now I feel horrible.

Context: on a road trip with another family. The other child has behavioral issues and has been known to get physical in the past with others at school and daycare. Over the course of the trip he's been pretty poorly behaved and aggressive but not downright violent... but I had it in the back of my mind that it could happen.

My daughter was playing with him in the other room, then suddenly runs out screaming, bleeding from the mouth and saying that he had hit her. I've never experienced anyone intentionally hurt my little girl and I instantly flew into protective dad mode before properly assessing the situation. In my mind he had punched her in the mouth.

I stormed into the room and flew into a rage, screaming at the absolute top of my lungs, pointing my finger in the kid's face saying to NEVER touch her EVER again. His mom was right behind me. He was likely terrified and I was honestly way beyond any level of anger I've ever felt.

In the next minute or two my daughter then clarified that it was an accident and they had been playing rough but had unintentionally slammed into each other.

The boy cried, his mom was in shock, and she also had tears in her eyes. I feel absolutely awful about the whole situation, I should have had more self control, and I'm a little in shock how quickly I became an absolute monster to a young kid.

I apologized in the moment to both of them and sent a message after saying I should have handled the situation better.

Just really upset about the whole thing, unsure how to proceed now. Any girl dads out there ever have this happen to them?

This is a great learning opportunity. As the excellent teacher that you are, what advice would you give to a student of yours who had done the same thing? You know it was an accident on your part but knowing that doesn’t make the feelings easy to deal with. Give yourself a grace period to feel a bit of healthy guilt. You’re not a bad person.

As a rule of thumb, practically ANY Korean crime drama will be incredible. They do American crim cinema better than us Americans.

Memoirs of a Murderer, Memories of Murder, I Saw the Devil, The Gangster, the Cop, and the Devil, etc.

Fuck it, ANY KOREAN MOVIE!!! Train to Busan? So good.

No, you are not just distracted by raising kids. Modern movies have been co-opted by politics and narcissistic nihilism and high levels of this toxic, cynical, postmodern “cleverness”. Disney/Marvel movies are the biggest most obvious perpetrator of this. Their movies are so afraid of expressing any genuinely challenging emotion. The only emotions allowed are surface level, “self-aware” “”jokes””, “sadness” and “anger”. It’s pathetic how little nuance there is. It’s like every time a slightly uncomfortable feeling comes up the writers are like, “Oh, God! Feelings are so gay, throw in a joke, quick!”

Movies are very condescending to the audience and do not trust them to understand basic plot, story, characterization, etc. and decides instead to spoonfeed details and while they’re at it, throw in some Hollywood politics for good measure (nowadays typically “woke” nonsense but not always. Hollywood was very racist for a long time).

Of course this is the fiat system at work. Artist don’t have the time to stop and make something that’s actually worth viewing because they are under pressure to return profits rather than making something memorable or even remotely challenging to audiences. They gotta place safe bets. Plus there are so many free forms of media and entertainment. TikTok, YouTube, social media? Forget it, those are free and in our fucking pockets why would we drive to a dirty theater with obnoxious people on their phones the whole time and waste our money?

All that being said, I do enjoy horror movies from the last ten years or so. They’re clever and creative and require a bit more trust from the audience. Also, television is incredible now in terms of production values. Shows from the 80s, 90s and 00s look like shit unless they were made for HBO and even then those don’t have the production values of today.

I could go on but I think the TLDR is no, you’re not out of touch, movies generally kinda suck.

Thank you, I enjoy filmmaking quite a bit!

“It tastes like… peanuts.” 🤣

The bad breath bit was hilarious too. This level of dedication is borderline painful to watch! But keep at it, I love seeing people get mad in the comments

Gotta let them work it out
