The proposed bill (https://legislation.govt.nz/bill/government/2024/0094/latest/LMS1003433.html) does not change any defined terms of the Treaty (https://www.tepapa.govt.nz/discover-collections/read-watch-play/maori/treaty-waitangi/treaty-close/full-text-te-tiriti-o).
This protest was made at the vote to pass the bill from first reading to select committee where submissions would be heard on the bill from any interested party.
The good part is that the first part is the bit that matters, those who want it can have it… the rest is irrelevant.
