Direct realist, individualist, libertarian, dove. Trying to overcome my biases.

The environmental gains from deleting old emails must be tiny compared to the gains from moving from paper to electronic storage. Your coworker needs a little perspective (unless it was all about signaling concern for the environment).

I’m not sure. It might depend on what counts as a like. Slashdot had upvoting before Facebook existed. The Wikipedia article for ā€œLike buttonā€ lists two pre-Facebook implementations, and mentions one was based on Digg’s digg button.

If a client’s like button caused a šŸ‘ note to be added to a note’s replies, you would be fine with that?

As I said, I’m not pro-like. I see trade-offs. On the positive side, likes (and zaps) reduce conversational clutter. On the negative side, human beings are already inclined to perform for status in public. Likes (and zaps) gamify that tendency by creating a score.

I’m already on the record as ambivalent about both likes and zaps. Dislikes are different. If you want to register agreement, acknowledgment, or gratitude without saying anything else, fine. But if you disagree with a note, you should provide reasons.

Thanks, Neomobius. After the trouble you went through I’m hesitant to say this, but I think adding SGs 3 through n to a photo shoot subtracts from its appeal. Intimacy is lost. What do you think?

Do you have an opinion about short women?
