On Xitter, Bryan Bishop argues in favor of cloning as more ethical than natural reproduction.

And he clarifies that intentionally bringing disabled children into this world is the unethical thing that could be stopped by cloning:

If we took that approach, we would ultimately pick known genomes over mutations or new combinations of genes. We would sort of agree on a set of valid templates from as of today 8 billion candidates. We would stop evolution and we would reduce the gene pool even if humans were to grow drastically in number. I took interstellar expansion as a scenario where we most certainly would grow beyond 8 billion specimen.

My understanding was that favoring the ethical thing would happen naturally and not through force. I'm slightly confused by his answer to my comment.

Parents have the right to do what they want about their reproduction. In my opinion, they have the right to have kids - as many as they want - even though some see babies as merely drivers of climate change. They have the right to not have kids even though some see it as a divine duty to have kids. They have the right to pick genes in vitro or even tweak genes to boost the IQ or whatever if they think that's what's best for them and their kids.

But I think 8 billion different genomes is way better than lets say 8 million if we ever hit some zombie apocalypse. The mutation we see as worthy of extinction or unethical of bringing into the next generation might be precisely what provides some immunity against the next nasty bug.

To clone what worked the last generation is to bet on continuity. If ever something fundamentally changes, we want diversity to hopefully have some specimen that can adapt to the change. But I'm most certainly not in favor of mandating who should have the most divergent kids and I guess we will see a trend of convergence towards some genes and away from others and cloning might be one way of achieving this but I doubt it will play a big role in human reproduction as it's too beautiful a thing to have two unique human beings watch what comes from each side of their particular parenthood.

I'm tempted to do some photoshop with some meme figure appearing when "only" dialing up the contrast ;)

nostr:npub1nstrcu63lzpjkz94djajuz2evrgu2psd66cwgc0gz0c0qazezx0q9urg5l conference in Tōkyō was magic 🇯🇵⚡️

This is what happens when people from all around the world meet to make social media a better place:

https://v.nostr.build/X65L.mp4

Great video! Had to download it to watch it off browser though, as my FF didn't support the codec.

The Wookie on Xitter just called nostr a deliberate failure (and me a coco but dumber) for not having key rotation or DID.

I kind of prefer the can-do attitude here 🫂

A service that kept all the events would know where your DMs are if they were publicly available.

I see a business model in helping people out in your situation. Relays that store all the events and when somebody misses events, they can get them there. Or when you unfollowed all your follows you get your prior state for a small fee ...

Some people want to make DMs more private by relays sharing them only with the participating parties which would make mirroring impossible unless the participants themselves mirror them.

I've been pushing against this since a long time but the trend is more and more towards events not getting mirrored much so you better find the relay you used back then and the relay better still be in business or else ...

Whaaaat? :D Stay safe up there!

Oh, I don't doubt that much injustice is happening when a government throws people into jail by the tens of thousands. Statements about not feeding them on any day somebody in the country gets killed are clear violations of international legal norms. On the other hand I would fear MS13 5 years ago more than Bukele now. By a big margin.

And with regards to bitcoin: I fear that this will end in disaster with Bukele or someone running away with all the BTC in Chivo but they are exposing their population to unconfiscatable money which ultimately is the best tool against dictators.

It's not the first time I see exactly this switcheroo but ... on bachelor parties and not on tech events.

I find it hard to watch and to make sense of. Was Mr. E in the audience? Did Vanessa approve of this? Why such a show for him? Was this on the main stage or a joke at some after party?

Ok, deleting nostr notes is not very reliable. Consider my other note that ignores the link you provided as "deleted" ;)

I see Alejandro Muyshondt is not just some small guy who will not get noticed if never heard of again. Let's see what legal procedures reveal.

Leaking of documents - classified or not - should not be a crime if you asked me but it is a crime and so it will get investigated as such.

He didn't share on Nostr what he was getting into trouble for. How did you get news about him? What can be done? Is he a political prisoner for whistleblowing on corrupt politicians as implied?

Are app bundles on Android a thing? Something like https://ninite.com/ for the 'ole Windows machine.

Should be easy enough to add to Obtainium? Could even be a "other stuff" thing. Publish your list of recommended FLOSS apps via #nostr, and install these apps with one click. Or, obviously, install someone else's public list.

Anything like that out there already?

There is "Android App Bundles" (a publishing format for Android Apps) https://developer.android.com/guide/app-bundle

I guess you are talking about something else.

What makes you believe there is a nip for that? Where is it implemented? I'm curious to know as I'm working on nostr based community "opinions". It's still work in progress but can be tried out here: https://beta.walletscrutiny.com/hardware/passport/
