Was in the rich part of the city and had some time to kill. Went to a mondo thrift store and got 3 pairs of pants that fit well for $25 total. Those combined with my current two pairs of operational pants and I am set for at least three years now, pants-wise.

My dad passed away today. I knew it was coming and am glad he is no longer suffering, but I’m really gonna miss him.

Old adventure note ☀️

One summer day I packed up my gear for a ruthless north cascades overnighter. 2500+ feet of gain in 10 miles and humid summer conditions made it one of my more challenging backpacking jaunts. I’ve done much bigger numbers in a day but idk why this one was just very challenging.

Got up to the destination and no one was there. Set up my tent, made dinner and sat with some whiskey enjoying the surroundings. As I sat there a big cloud front began to pour over these adjacent mountains from the west. It happened fast and was a holy-show I will always remember. Literally brought tears to my eyes.

Next morning I woke up in a July monsoon at 5k feet above sea level. Packed up my gear and headed home for a memorable hike out in sideways rain.
