I've got a challenge for the good people of Nostr! Hear me out-

Over the past few months I've been implementing 1 "unplug" day per week.

This is a day where I don't look at, or pay attention to any screens, phone, TV, computer, smart watch, etc. Technological fasting if you will.

All remain shut off.

It's pretty hard to completely detach from these devices, whether you're someone who uses them to pass time or stay productive, but it's been very worthwhile for me.

In the first few weeks it was pretty tough to curb the boredom on this day, but by week 3 things started to change.

I slowly began to fill time with creative and new activities, opposed to my downtime norms of consumption- killing time with reels, tiktoks or brainrot shows with my lady, and scrolling through nothingness on nostr or x.

It's basically become a day dedicated to the following for me:

- Reading

- Writing

- Meditation

- Stretching

- Photography

- Walks & disconnected exploration (no maps, no plans, just go wherever the day takes you)

- Household responsibilities (especially the ones I've been putting off for weeks, fixing odds and ends, big clean ups or projects)

It really does promote peak rest & relaxation.

I use this day to stay more present, which is normally an issue for me- between running a business, working a full time job & keeping up with the market.

But it most definitely works, my fiancée joins me and it's been great for quality time in our relationship.

There's been some great side affects to say the least, and I look forward to this day.

Most of the activities I picked up through implementing this weekly protocol have stuck, and it's made me realize how much I need these things in my day-to-day alongside focusing on relaxation, mental rest and creation rather than consumption.

Doing this will make you aware of your brains need for constant stimulation, which is likely something we've all developed in this fast-food, hyperconsumption world of ours. But this day has given me an opportunity to turn that dial down.

The last odd thing I've noticed is this- I do find myself sitting with thoughts for periods of time on these days, and thoughts/memories of situations, that I would normally not remember come into my head. It's almost as if they were unprocessed thoughts/memories, but the inability to escape into a screen has given me a chance to think about these instances with clarity.

It's time to unplug, anon. I'm sure this could help 1 person out there and if it does, I'm a happy man.

Give it a shot and let me know how it goes!

Cheers

Id love to try this someday

The board of directors will not listen to any suggestions. The essence of the problem is that most of the Opensats board of directors and funds are part-time. They think they are doing public welfare work and don't owe anyone. The duties of Opensats are only a small part of their daily work. For Nostr developers who are in urgent need of development funds, the projects they develop are their everything. Opensats is the only source of funding for most Nostr developers.

They don't care about the long and inefficient project review time and the unfairness of the rules. They only need to donate a few well-known Nostr clients to shut everyone up. As long as Opensats can operate for a long time, it is a good and bright resume for them. They don't care whether Jack's funds can be used efficiently or whether Nostr can develop quickly. Nostr developers develop quickly after getting the funds quickly. This is also one of the reasons why Nostr develops slowly.

Many developers come because of nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m 's call, because Jack has long-term funding for developers and is willing to continue to invest time and money in Nostr. But they will leave because of disappointment. nostr:note1cgyukak2c0lpzyvsdveq8fpvypf7gxtac9u7nl3kn59quymgmfhqmny3xy

There are trade offs everywhere.

They made the trade off to not use developer donated funds to operate the charity. Therefore they have few resources to handle the numerous requests for funding. These people are donating their limited time to help fund the projects they deem as high value. I also got rejected, and with a basic email response, but they owe me nothing, and if they didn’t exist no one would receive funding.

As time goes on maybe they will choose a different set of trade offs but for now they are one of a very limit set of organization highlighting and funding bitcoin and nostr.

It’s a never ending battle though.

This is so cool! Great work

I was talking to a recent college graduate last night and asked him if anything he learned during his four years of college had been useful in his new finance job, or if he’s been learning everything on the job. Without hesitation, he told me that not a single thing from college had helped him in his current role.

What a waste of 4 years. College is mostly a scam.
