I've been married for 13 years. We have two kids. Like all married couples with kids, we argue. Sometimes a lot. The trick is not to try and eliminate arguments, that'll never happen, but to get a better perspective as soon as possible. Identify the conflict-driven narratives we tell ourselves.

I share this because it was the first thing that came to mind this morning, as I tried to contextualize the difference between Nostr and Twitter while following two different conversations on the two (very) different platforms.

I've never had a large following on any social media. Not until Bitcoin Ekasi. The Twitter profile there has 16k+ followers, not massive, but by far the largest following I've ever had on any social media.

And what I've noticed is that I get disproportionately 'rewarded' with likes, comments and engagements for writing polarizing and potentially conflict-creating tweets.

Yes, other tweets also do well, but the ones that generate arguments do better.

The difference, I feel, between Twitter and Nostr is like the difference between two moments in a typical marriage.

In one moment you're fighting with your partner, driven more and more, as the conflict escalates, by your own selfish desire to be right. In the next moment (or many moments later) you realise which part of the argument was driven by that desire for conquest and which part (more often than not the smaller part) was driven by actual differences.

Maybe I'm wrong, but when I read comments on Nostr, it just feels like there's more clarity in the conversation, compared to Twitter.

Of course, this description risks being a gross overgeneralization, but it describes the feeling I was left with after two very different interactions.

Arch is very stable, just run stable and LTS kernels. When an update breaks something it's usually a small and easy to fix thing. Migrating a server with Debian can be much more challenging. Ubuntu is a no-go zone, just like manjaro.

Most people are skeptical of it due to its intangibility and don’t know much about it. Some highly religious people look to scholarly opinions but many people just approach it pragmatically or skeptically.

But I do think the work that Saifedean and others are doing to bring more awareness to bitcoin being halal money is valuable work to be doing.

This used to look broken in Snort because Snort didn't implement kind:9802 (Highlights).

It still doesn't implement Highlights, but because it now supports NIP-31 it can show context for ANYTHING regardless of whether it knows what it is or it doesn't.

This seems so absurd to me. Literally 99% of anything I've ever wanted about a remote storage option has always been about having automatic storage of the photos and files on my everyday devices, but being able to selectively remove things when I'm out of space **without losing them.**

And every single time I try to get another app or service that fixes this, I'm just certain that somehow I'm stupid and just can't figure this out and everyone else MUST have the solution. There's just got to be a button sitting there that fixes this. And yet every single time I waste hours or end up being told I need to pay for X or setup a huge NAS machine (which I've already done and is equally unreliable).

I just cannot comprehend how this is such a difficult problem. And I don't know why anyone wants to have a fully synced folder with all actions and deletions on their carry/work device with a home server or backup? Does everyone else just use this for 5 Gb max worth of personal pictures and never need anything more than that?

The cybersecurity resilience act sounds like a huge blow to FOSS. Or am I not interpreting it correctly?

Imagine every newb getting started on some new project having to comply with complex regulatory requirements…
