I threw yonle a follow out of respect for the act.
too much data for a human to deal with. also the internet is gross so I dont wanna see it all
no issues. happens to all of us and you are mature enough to own it. honorable stuff. glad i met you

apologized for harsh words and has been a model conversationalist since. credit where due. most arent that mature.
Thank you for the apology. I appreciate it. It is more than I have come to expect on the internet lol.
understood. so lets work on encrypting all the data and then relay runners have no responsibility. It should have been federated from the beginning. My main issue though is that the rush to centralisation in the name of comfort and convenience is in full swing.
It reminds me of something Khalil Gibran wrote:
"Or have you only comfort, and the lust for comfort, that stealthy thing that enters the house a guest, and then becomes a host, and then a master?
Ay, and it becomes a tamer, and with hook and scourge makes puppets of your larger desires.
Though its hands are silken, its heart is of iron.
It lulls you to sleep only to stand by your bed and jeer at the dignity of the flesh.
It makes mock of your sound senses, and lays them in thistledown like fragile vessels.
Verily the lust for comfort murders the passion of the soul, and then walks grinning in the funeral."
this is not a new set of issues unique to this project.
hahaha I remember bro. We are all still having fun though so let it roll. The underlying tech is decent. Hopefully it will evolve well once the client side starts taking some of the power from relays. May even get federated one day who knows. There are a lot of young devs on the case though so they are smart but dont know the history of how projects and communities get captured and redirected. Not their fault but may be the downfall.
Yah. nostr creator says he wants to filter at relays and that centralization of data around relays is how nostr is designed to work. Basically, fuck your decentralisation and non censorship. They envision a walled garden that they can monetize is my guess. Sad but others will rise.
It is a little amusing that devs on here assume no one else knows any tech. They get rude and snotty and snark instead of answering questions. I really hoped for better but many of the devs are freedom larps. just sad.
ok. so you are a bit of an ill mannered person so far but will continue in good faith. stop explaining what the docs say. I have read them. thats why I thought nostr had a chance. Thats why i see the danger. If you dont see it then ok. carry on. I have almost given up on the tiny hope now anyway. Seems devs are hell bent on ruining the promise for convenience sake. As for everything centralized at first, thats for cnvenience of the devs and service provider. You are making an appeal to tradition btw so on the face of it your argument is invalid.
be well.
Now for the personal question. All who have engaged in defence of filtering relays have been rude to me personally for no reason. Why? I am being as polite as i can be. Why the snark and sarcasm? Why all of you?
bro. stop assuming ignorance. I am talking about how I wish it worked. no one is attacking you personally so bring the tone down a little. I dont want internet beef over nothing. just be polite.
Scuttlebut may or may not be what i am looking for will look. As for your objections, sounds like the client is still immature so shoulnt hold that agaist it and as for the convenience for newcomers bit . . . freaking can't stand appeals to convenience . . . just do it right and grind it into shape. Centralization is and always has been a shortcut.
This is not the first time I have watched this go down fren. Community groups, an NGO, hell I even led the Oracle DB side of a PeopleSoft migration ended up causing the same issues within the organisations as the central system rearranged the whole work culture.
We dont have to argue. You can just watch it go down. Like I said though. Doesnt really matter. The web that nostr is designed for is about to get wiped out over next 5 ish yrs. The interface defines the experience and that interface will behind a personal llm. This is the trend. This is where the big dollars are going. It's really an atack vector on Google as far as rest of big tech is concerned. If you care about freedom though, it is a thin sliver of light when your enemies are fighting each other.
They buy the regulators and the devs through gifts, salaries and awards. That's the game. The Deva we love most will be the levers.
Statan is Satan's simpleton cousin so this will def work kek. Sorry. Couldn't help a typo joke.
But that freedom is stolen if we stumble or sleep
Solid plan btw
Aaaand use nostr to argue with the creator of nostr about his desire to censor and centralize with relays as beach head.
Then drink more coffee
Don't assume. I wrote one of the first papers on federated identity with sun micro and the Canadian space sciences data project back in 98. I am imminently qualified for this discussion. I sold my first piece of code in 83. When I was just a kid. So don't assume my disagreement is from ignorance.
We centralized in early days because edge devices were weak and software platforms too fragmented to maintain standards. None of us wanted to.
Now the edge can handle the load. There is no excuse anymore for centralizing control of user data unless you want access to it.
Not for us. It is hard for most. Just put it in the client. Its harder but the right thing to do.
