Finished installing the copper panels in these custom doors! The client found antiqued copper and some cool wrought iron floral work so I figured out how to add them in. The reclaimed wood doors are only 17” wide each, but they weigh a lot. I ended up sinking some longer screws through the hinges just to be sure I never get a call back about the doors sagging.

Gotta love this surface-of-the-sun heat in Texas!

Good morning nostr friends, nearly finished building these custom doors for a client!

Jim Beam whiskey decommissioned some of their old wooden framed aging warehouses (after lighting made a few of them go poof) and these doors are made from the floor planks that used to store the whiskey barrels. The client found Spanish tiles they liked as well, those are the inserts in the bottom panels.

This was the biggest dining table I’ve ever built, and man was it heavy. I ended up building a giant cart for it with 8” casters, the whole thing glided around like butter!

Next up - reclaimed wood arched doors, this will be a unique one.

Broke out the card scrapers to do some final cleaning of the curves on this table base. I’m a hybrid power tool/hand tool shop and this is a great example: using a band saw to cut the curves for the feet and legs, then breaking out the hand planes and card scrapers to dial everything in (then back to a nice power sander for the final prep work). There’s definitely something fulfilling about using hand tools.

Yessir! Just over 12 1/2 feet, client must have a huge family

Jim Beam warehouse floor boards all assembled and stained on this beast of a table. The gel stain I used evened out the tone of the various wood species, when the Jim Beam warehouse was built in the early 1900s, the floorboards were made from whatever was close by in Kentucky: oak, fir, spruce, hemlock, and some poplar. All of these pieces came from floor boards that were 2” thick and some of them smell like bourbon when they’re cut.

Solid oak table base for a client, top will be reclaimed oak flooring boards from a decommissioned Jim Beam whiskey aging warehouse!

I’m using Festool dominos (floating tenons) to join the stacked leg pieces. Once everything is stained and sealed I’ll do the final assembly.

I’ve bought milk from them before, it’s a bit of a drive for me from Spring, but totally worth it. Next time I go I’m picking up 3 or 4 gallons

Thank you, I think that’s why I’m always drawn to reclaimed stuff, especially wood like this

I’m turning whiskey warehouse floor boards into double doors for a client! A few years ago Jim Beam had a warehouse fire caused by lightning, that warehouse burned to the ground, but these floor boards came from an adjacent warehouse when the company decided to renovate everything.

I just finished installing this reclaimed white oak vanity for a client, the original saw mill marks are there if you look close. The design feature on the doors is my signature style and I’m definitely happy with how it turned out!
