The gender studies identity bots have arrived. Time to pack it in boys.

Oh wait, there's a block feature.

Also, regarding bitcoin, I'm guessing you were trying to help shield your friends and family from inflation, not really doing it for ngu.

With nostr I don't see the point of pumping early adoption by normies.. Otoh, early adoption by parties fighting for freedom against censorship, tyranny etc. makes perfect sense.

First, this is an excellent, comprehensive and informative presentation that obviously took a lot of effort and contains excellent observations and valuable information. Great job and thank you!

I'm left with only one fundamental question: why do we need to chase users or communities? Like Bitcoin, nostr is freedom, but unlike with bitcoin I fail to see the incentive to bring in the hoards that aren't looking for it. Arguably bitcoin might have been better off if it grew more organically instead of chasing ngu. Regarding nostr, I fail to see the incentive for chasing adoption, aside from forcing growth which comes with its own negative consequences. Why does nostr need salesmen?

Somewhat ironically I tell people about nostr but it's when they are specifically concerned about, reporting on or affected by deplatforming, demonetization, censorship, control etc. (see Telegram'a Pavel in France). I see why we need to make freedom seeking people aware of it when it solves their problems but I fail to see why we need to be pushy/concerned about it.

I also think there are risks associated with accelerating onboarding of the hoardes. First, lowering the signal to noise ratio. Second, scammers and spammers. Third, breaking something important with many eyes watching (perhaps stifling innovation for fear of this). Fourth, getting on the radar before reaching organic critical mass. If you think about it, these largely also applied to bitcoin and perhaps in line with Rabble's early assertion, may also apply to many/all new systems.

IMO, if we should be actively onboarding anyone, it should be freedom minded content creators who have, and for whom we all have, a vested interest in solidifying their ability to speak freely. Beyond that, my vote is to allow the nostr community to organically evolve, experiment, break things etc.

Bitcoin's fundamental value derives from being a platform for freedom, same with nostr. It will just take time for people to recognize. With the forces of control actively clamping down, imo, if you build it, they will come.

How about a tab that instead of simply using $1000 back in 2011(?), roughly estimates the time spent in the sub, maybe per year, then uses McDonald's historical burger flipping wages DCAd into bitcoin? That would really highlight the opportunity cost of investment into being a perpetual naysayer in an irrational echo chamber.

I was just wondering when you'd adapt one of your LN automations to Nostr, for example to blow bubbles when you received a new DM. Does this library facilitate that?

Trump/RFK Jr. Bitcoin Pump 2.0?

RFK Jr. for CIA would certainly change the tone.

It's not often in life you'll see a humble genius like nostr:nprofile1qqsvrlrhw86l5sv06wkyjgs6rrcekskvk7nx8k50qn9m7mqgeqxjpvgpr4mhxue69uhkummnw3ezucnfw33k76twv4ezuum0vd5kzmp09u4x38 investing his time and effort, and sacrificing time away from his family just sitting waiting for anyone to stroll up and be enlightened. This man is a treasure to bitcoin and should have his own conference. He's a builder factory, facilitating future innovators. There has to be a way we can flip the script from pumping shitcoins, paid services and shallow talking heads to actually educating and enabling new users and use cases thereby seeding innovation and broadening our base. Ben has been rather quietly but substantially helping bitcoin and lightning via his many lightning enablement projects, including the amazing/powerful LNbits, and had a hand in the creation of nostr as well. I would love to support, volunteer and attend a conference where current builders, including the many who've been motivated, spawned and supported by Ben could meet, collaborate, share and pay forward his investment to future generations.

Slow steady growth of dominance, as flawed as that metric is, is definitely a positive indicator.

Trump said he "wants bitcoin tp go to the moon."

I'll settle for a Bitcoin rally.

This warms the heart.

Exactly. Closest goddamn building. People yelling and pointing and they let him get 5 shots off. Unbelievable. Heads should roll, literally.

I find it interesting that people are chattering quite a bit regarding Lynn and Jack's talk at the Oslo Freedom Forum about free will and control of the algorithm while there are multiple moments in the broader forum where presenters are actively framing their arguments in a way that commits similar offenses of control, bias and steering of opinions.

For example, there is a segment featuring Georges Azzi pushing an "LGBTQIA+" agenda. It's should be no surprise to anyone that many purveyors of this agenda have notoriously attempted to use tactics such as controlling the speech of others, including compelled speech, and compelled exposure to controversial ideas even on children. For example the idea that men can be women and women can be men is being forced on children in public schools in the US.

Two other pieces leading into Lynn and Jack's talk frame the Ukrainian-Russian conflict as one of Russian aggression and usurpation, ignoring the larger backdrop of US and NATO provocation and expansion right up to Russia's Western borders and their refusal to allow Ukraine to engage in diplomacy, which has caused the loss of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian lives. This conflict, the provocations leading up to it, and the obviously controlled media narratives about it, when objectively analyzed, paint a picture of Western aggesssion, propaganda and censorship which are in stark contrast to the ideas that follow in Lynn and Jack's talk.

To provide a tangible example of my suppositions in the previous paragraph, please watch the following video.

I ask you to consider if the entire situation surrounding the conflict passes the "change the names" test. Imagine Putin had ever suggested that "There will be no longer a Keystone pipeline. We will bring and end to it." what the reaction would have been. Or if the US had "defensive" missile systems steadily approaching its borders if diplomacy would have been attempted repeatedly only the be thwarted by powerful outside influences and how that would have been characterized.

The broader point I'm trying to make is that if the goal is free will and free speech then discussions of such would be more effective if not interspersed or bookended with obvious subjective bias or propaganda that commits similar bias or steering, in this case human driven. The framing should be as objective and truthful as possible. Unfortunately that was clearly not the case here.

Great words and ideas but presented within an ironic backdrop.

Tucker's interview of Jeffrey Sachs last week blows the whole "Unprovoked Attack" narrative wide open.
