What are the top 10 countries where you can find the most Bitcoin ATMs?
In descending order, they are: the USA, Canada, Spain, Australia, Poland, El Salvador, Switzerland, Romania, Hong Kong & Austria.
But why does the chart look like this? And most importantly, why are developed nations such as France, Germany & the UK not on the list?

It doesn't ask you for a phone number here in Romania either... granted that the amount is small 😅
Are Bitcoin ATMs private? Well, the privacy is relative to what you're willing to share and to whom.
If you don't want your bank to know that you're buying bitcoin, then you should definitely use an ATM with cash. But if you want to buy larger amounts, you will be subjected to the KYC/AML regulations of the land. In such a case, the government will know about your purchase – but your bank most likely won't.
Therefore, it's up to you to decide how you want to purchase bitcoin and with which privacy settings. Either way, consider that online exchanges are the least private way to buy Bitcoin.

Why should anyone use a Bitcoin ATM when there are so many online exchanges which offer better rates?
According to GeneralBytes Marketing Manager Martijn Wismeijer, there are still parts of the world where access to banking is limited or the services are not good enough. Also, it’s more convenient to use cash for reasons which concern privacy against your bank (which may be hostile to the idea of enabling you to buy bitcoin).

Some of you guys zapped me last month on my birthday.
Just wanted to let you know that I spent that money on socks at the Bitcoin FilmFest in Warsaw 😍
You can say that he is quite a… happy camper *ba-dum tsssss*
In 2014, Martijn Wismeijer became the world’s first Bitcoin cyborg by implanting a wallet-storing NFC chip in his hand.
9 years later, his chip is still functional but runs different software. In more recent times, he reprogrammed it to point to his LNURL or connect to his Nostr account. According to Martijn, the chip can be rewritten and repurposed up to 100,000 times, which is more than enough for a lifetime.

Thanks for the zaps, guys!
I’ve used some your donations to buy the Polish translations of “Inventing Bitcoin” and “The Bitcoin Standard” to the Warsaw branch of Ladies of Liberty Alliance 🔥
Zap me and I’ll buy some Bitcoin books in Polish for the fine Ayn Rand-reading ladies from Ladies of Liberty Alliance (LOLA) Warzaw 🤩
Might also onboard them with LN wallets later.
(we recorded a podcast interview)
Why did Martijn Wismeijer become a Bitcoin android by implanting a programmable NFC chip under his skin? 🤖
As it turns out, the answer is more complex than the apparent convenience and there are also some security benefits with multisig and Shamir backups.

What’s the highest Bitcoin fee you’ve ever paid?
Ethereum sucks: it makes use of a buggy programming language that makes people lose money, it’s centralized, and it doesn’t scale.
However, there are a handful of legitimate use cases which also benefit from market demand. From exchange tokens to stablecoins and tokenized art, there’s a lot of stuff that can bring transaction volumes and fees for the miners + Lightning channel operators.
ETH was only the bad testnet, when are we bringing them to Bitcoin?
