The plastics industry has been telling people and politicians for years that "plastic can be recycled", and we trusted them, so we kept up using plastic for every damn thing in society, from food and candy wrappings, to shopping bags.

In the mean time, many tens of thousands of faithful recycling people have dutifully been operating plastics collection and reclamation initiatives all over the planet for years, accumulating huge stores of packed wrapping and crushed bottles; megatonnes of disposed, soiled plastic has ended up in storage, waiting to get recycled.

There's just a bit of a problem.

The plastic industry lied to us all. "Plastic" is a concept that covers so many different kinds of plasticS that are chemically different from each other, and cannot currently realistically be mixed together if you were to try to reclaim the constituent materials.

We probably won't have the technology to micro-sort plastics and plastic tearings and fragments effectively for at least a decade. Same goes for chemical processes that can handle contamination of one plastic recycling feedstock with traces from other kinds of plastic. (I could be wrong here but I haven't heard of any such chemical process.)

They did find a fungi at the bottom of a German lake recently that seems to eat away at pladtics when there's no other food sources available, but it's unknown if that can be used to break down plastic waste any time soon.

So, unless we are to keep storing currently un-recyclavle plastics for some more decades in the hope that the technology to recycle it arises and is brought online quickly, we have only one thing to do with the pile of plastic that's the size of half of Manhattan:

Shred it; granulate it and mix it into particulate coal-feed power plants fuel to burn it together with the coal. Only in the coal plants are temperatures in the combustion chamber high enough to destroy (oxygenate) the chlorinated and flouridated compounds that would otherwise crate nasty, noxious fumes. It'll probably still need additional smoke-flue treatment though.

So what can we learn from this?

Large industries and industrial special interests organisations are lying to us often, and they'll keep up their lies for decades without vatting an eye, to assure their own livelyhood, no matter the cost to the rest of society.

So, if you, like me, have dutifully been sorting your household waste by category, and properly disposing of it for years on end, then the plastics industry has taken you for a gullible fool.

Replies are cool too. But re-notes just spam the feed, unless it’s someone new that the community doesn’t already follow.

What about a new NIP to add impressions that clients can implement. So we can see actual reach of a note. When a client sees a note, it adds an impression.

Ive been using NATHAN running belt/waist packs for years and over time, they always begin tearing/fraying on one side. Does anyone else have this issue or know of a repair solution?

I've managed to preserve cooked rice for weeks; i immediately deep freeze some of it (after it has cooled down a bit from boiling ofc) in a sealed container and it's perfectly fresh & good even after a month in the freezer.

Part of the trick is to make sure that the rice is still plenty moist when you freeze it but also that you use plenty of olive oil in the water when boiling it. Works for me!

Of course I made the usual mistake of underestimating how much rice grows when it's boiled.

Lets just say I have rice for a couple of weeks now. 🙄

Hey Arkinox, I appreciate your response here. My point is that even though you sacrificed hours at your job you didn’t actually commit a meaningful amount of hours to your project until you received the grant. Many developers in the space have full time jobs and commit resources (time and money) prior to receiving grants if any. Most grant recipients already have a project in the production stage where your project was still in the idea / prototyping stage.

It’s no secret that I’m against the metaverse. But maybe I’m wrong. Can you tell me what the opportunity is here? What’s the best possible outcome for your project? How does Bitcoin and Nostr benefit? To be frank it seems that your project falls short of the opensats mission statement -

“Help us to provide sustainable funding for free and open-source contributors working on freedom tech and projects that help bitcoin flourish.”

The metaverse is literally the matrix, it’s “the anti-bitcoin”. The opposite of touch grass. Not to mention 10s of billions of dollars have been spent on trying to build these metaverses in which all of them failed.

I get the feeling that a lot of Nostr devs think they deserve to get paid just because they put in work. And Opensats is over here giving out participation trophies to their close buddies even if the project is out of scope. How many other opensats projects were funded solely on an idea/ MVP?

Idea guys should have skin in the game. Getting a grant based on an idea alone is throwing shit against the wall.

You are missing the point. Corny Chat was developed and had active daily users before receiving a grant. Damus had done substantial work and had users before getting a grant. This metaverse project didn’t have any real validation and was still at an idea / mvp stage without users.

Let’s see if this crap is still here in year from now and if anyone is using it.

There were better projects that got rejected or that didn’t get follow up funding so that ark could build his cute little metaverse game. Tools that would help grow nostr, bitcoin and freedom tech.

The grift is opensats donations went to a mEtAvErSe project. How is this freedom tech? How is it solving any problems? Why did he get a grant to create a game less than 1% of nostr will ever use? This is miss allocation of funds and more proof that opensats board members fund their buddies to build worthless crap no one needs.
