welcome back to nostr, security-conscious bitcoiner with a security key who just got locked out of X 🙌

bitchat (occupy wall st., 2011)

I kind of love how X just locked me out because of their security key rotation and even though I tried on 2 devices and it says "Success!", it won't let me log in anymore.

Cleansing 🧼

Square did their part, now let’s do ours. For bitcoin to become everyday money, merchants need to accept it. But first, they’ll need a reason to. We've put together the resources to help anyone make the case that only bitcoin can defeat credit card fees: https://bitcoinmerchantcommunity.org

These resources include persuasive leave-behind materials that bitcoiners can bring to local businesses, from subtle, home printer-friendly handouts to bold, attention‑grabbing combo pieces like, uh, a plushie with impeccable penmanship.

But no matter how good a leave-behind is, it’s better with a face. Included with each leave-behind is a playbook for you that includes step‑by‑step guidance for how to make the bitcoin case to merchants.

We hope for this community to be an open and independent group with a simple goal: bitcoin payment adoption among merchants—regardless of which point-of-sale solution they prefer. It’s also where all of the resources we’ve mentioned so far can be found for free.

For now, if you want the plushie combo, you'll have to pick it up at @bitcoinpark_ in Austin and Nashville, @atlbitlab, @SpaceDenver, and @PresidioBitcoin. This might change, though. Who can say? Bitcoin is weird and it’s only getting weirder.

u the best

they already use Bitcoin and this is definitely less complicated.

yes that's what we already do this with lightning, doesn't need to be built :)

yes it would probably be cheaper and definitely faster and more robust, and doesn't require channels.

IP level privacy is something we can't fully address in Cashu: Tor would be best but doesn't work in browsers. VPNs are great but the user needs to get one by themselves. OHTTP is a good compromise which we're adding.

The best part about ecash however is that as the payer / customer in the vast majority of cases you remain fully offline when you make the payment. The merchant needs to talk to the mint (can use Tor, VPN, OHTTP) but the vast majority (customers) don't talk to the mint while making a payment.

nostr:nevent1qqsx6wssdwaujlnqfnsnxvvn2v4eyjkj3hu7zd3kdr73jrygswn2ugspr9mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuumwdae8gtnnda3kjctv9upzq5xeflpdskqvdq4swxj59793uvdzqzc9pzatjk3nhmcg2h0js8trqvzqqqqqqy2wv020

The payer doesn't have a mint interaction while paying, so as the payer, you're not talking to the mint for each transaction.

You can use VPNs or Tor if you want to hide your IP.

We're also integrating OHTTP into the Cashu protocol:

https://github.com/cashubtc/nuts/pull/286

If I had some free time, I would build a service that facilitates atomic swaps of ecash from one mint to another. Something like a broker, let's call him Charlie.

- Users Alice use mint A, Bob uses mint B

- Bob wants to pay Alice but doesn't have ecash from mint A

- Bob discovers that Charlie holds a balance on mint A and mint B

- Charlie offers to swap from B to A for a 0.5% fee

- Bob agrees, atomically swaps coins from B for coins form A

- Bob sends Alice coins from A

Charlie obviously announces himself, the mints he supports, and his contractual conditions, on Nostr. That's also how Bob discovers him.

the hard part is stepping up

Yes it makes sense

I have a working version of bitchat android with full background persistance. can run in your pocket for days after closing, waiting for incoming messages, relaying the messages of others, with notifications when you receive a message. starts automatically after boot. battery use is minimal. all optional, user has full control.

remember when satoshi told nostr:nprofile1qqsy2ga7trfetvd3j65m3jptqw9k39wtq2mg85xz2w542p5dhg06e5qpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhsz9mhwden5te0wfjkccte9ec8y6tdv9kzumn9wshszrnhwden5te0dehhxtnvdakz7shavku "fuck linux, lets implement minimize to tray for windows, that's going to increase the node count by 300%" — that's what I'm doing now.

It works... sometimes! Idk how you implemented it, is the mute list cached locally?

Smooth.

you don't need to do anything. cashu is a way to use custodial lightning more privately.

for example, you're a user of wallet of satoshi. cashu has better privacy and a many other features enabled through its cryptography.

hal's intelligence can vary during the day, depending on which model we plug in.
