Possibly not on that vector, but if you go back 30 years those guys were all on the piss and smoking darts and then going out in Indian dustbowls to sweat it out in 40 degree heat. They might have been more gritty, but a lot of that was self-inflicted.

There are still a lot of 4th innings grinds for a draw and we see batsman hang on when the situation dictates.

DRS has made Tests better with how crucial each wicket is, and the skills transfer from short form has improved it overall IMO.

Actually separating forms of the game rather than keeping one form and have that change entirely has helped. Tests remain the pinnacle, even for the younger generations, they know that’s what the true cricket fans care about and that’s where they want to prove themselves.
