Building StartOS, a graphical operating system optimized for self-hosting.

Definitely best to wit for official releases. Alby Hub is currently in Alpha testing and is expected to have bugs.

That said, you may have discovered a bug. Any info you can share will be helpful. Why did you have to restart it 3 times?

The project is already underway. More info coming soon

Jellyfin has apps for just about every platform, including smart TVs. It's also very easy to create guest accounts to share media, etc. I've never used Plex personally, so I can't compare, but I'm pretty sure Jellyfin does all the things and easily.

I finally got around to #selfhosting NextCloud on nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll server. I'm able to sync from my desktop but having trouble from my #GOS Android device. It says cannot find local host when I try to enter the servers LAN address. Have you managed to get the mobile device connected to NextCloud?? nostr:npub1c9d95evcdeatgy6dacats5j5mfw96jcyu79579kg9qm3jtf42xzs07sqfm are you aware of any limitations due to security?

This definitely works, I'm personally doing it with GOS. Are you followour guide for this?

nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll when 036? I can't bring myself to use tor for remote access. I want access over vpn.

It's in alpha testing, beta in September. It's a massive release, so lots of testing needed.

Yes, but nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll is working on clearnet integration for their services. Not 100% sure if clearnet would also apply for SimpleX.

It certainly will!

I am trying nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll and looks like now I will save time and have reliable services (already lost too much time with docker without backup).

I just canโ€™t wait to have a router/dns (pihole like) and local emails.

Pls tell me local emails are on the way nostr:npub1j87rgjtftxaux3xd5nhthwavm3907ywnu8x0z0uywqntsv57vajshl3hzx

What do you mean by local emails? You mean running your own SMTP server? That is very difficult to do in a way that will actually result in emails being received to inboxes. Email is largely a captured protocol, and it is no longer feasible to run your own SMTP server and expect clients to permit emails from that server. We plan to offer Mail In a Box at some point, but it will probably only work for certain use cases. Meaning, many people will not receive the emails you send them.

2025.

But router demo vid coming next week.

We haven't advertised yet because next week the crowdfund will conatain a video clickthrough of the amazing UI!

Yeah that model runs just fine. Nothing compared to ChatGPT speeds but it's affordable consumer hardware. No, nobody has packaged OpenUI for StartOS yet, looks cool though.

The newer 7B models like Llama3 or Mistrel work great on well-resourced devices like the ones we sell.

No real harm in running it alongside Bitcoin and Lightning, but you also don't have to. It's your server, only install what you want.

Hardware raid setups work fine, because StartOS still sees it as a single drive.

nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll Any estimate for Server one having mirrored 2x2TB ( software raid ) in near future?

Defintely on the roadmap, but not in the next 12 months
