chronic early adopter of decentralized tech :)

Hmm… so my friend signed up on Damus and his account seems not to have instantiated right. Because I don’t see following and followers or relays on his account when I view on Damus.

And you signed up on Coracle, but I don’t see relays on your profile when I view on Damus..

One onboarded to nostr:npub12vkcxr0luzwp8e673v29eqjhrr7p9vqq8asav85swaepclllj09sylpugg . Is an introductions post required? If so, that should be pushed by the UI of the app! Is it a full proof method to get plugged in?

The other onboarded to nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 and their account is actually bugged (doesn’t show following or follows). Maybe profile didn’t get instantiated in relays fully?

nostr:npub1jmqznxuxxxrnaj3m7esjrwauxmvg742ltj0gsgumlmtxukzq99yqfrl6g5 brought up a good point. Could it be that not creating a lightning wallet flags you as a bot? Or that new people are just inherently outside the WOT and get excluded?

I had two people try to onboard to nostr recently and they both seemingly had a bad experience.

One could not get greeted by anyone or find content to engage with. The other had technical issues where their account seemingly wasn’t instantiated right. (Maybe both had this issue).

But idk nobody cares. It’s survivors bias I suppose. We all got set up early on and forgot what it was like because in the early days everyone just followed everyone

Just had a friend join Nostr fresh on nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 . Seems like account propagation takes a while? “Following” and “follows” doesn’t show up at all on their account.

Where can I find flat earthers on Nostr? Genuine question

Not specifically about the ranch, but this podcast with a Navajo ranger is super interesting https://youtu.be/5jb-2yQixVU?si=6bgw3qvygjUwHG5_

That may be, but I like that he will know first hand because he’s building an app first and learning from that experience.

I think he just has the correct requirements for the use cases!

To have a similar experience on Nostr, you’d need private posts. Definitely possible by sharing read keys around and rotating those but also more of a hassle.

Because you have no control over your own data on Nostr. The relays own it. And anything you say or do can be used against you. Plead the 5th for your own good.

Charge a one time fee for apps, charge a subscription for relays.

For example, I would pay $20 (or more) for an app and $2 per month for a relay nostr:note1zz0lfawq8w8xne7qxrwkfk5qp50vzrrey3997svshyujtj5a5xgsfsux0c

Because posting random thoughts is not very valuable. It’s not something that humans needed to do for 10k years.

WhatsApp charged $12 per year and that was for essential communication. Farcaster charges $5 per *year*.

Because that is what it is worth.

If you want a lump sum up front, don’t go for a subscription model. Just charge a larger one-time fee.

If you want a subscription for the dependable income, you will get less up front.

What happened to the Nostr “better DMs” discussions? Has the debate been settled on which NIP(s) to use? Or did the debate just exhaust itself and it’s on hold for now?

“And it comes to pass in the journeying of the ark, that Moses says, ‘Rise, O Yehovah, and your enemies are scattered, and those hating you flee from your presence.’ And in its resting he says, ‘Return, O Yehovah, [to] the myriads, the thousands of Israel.’”

Escrow also just allows a lower barrier to entry for a seller. If you have to “know somebody” to have access to thousands of customers, that’s just an unfair barrier to jump.

But if anyone can sell and a customer need only trust the escrow, that’s a much more open marketplace
