This is a passion project of mine. Super niche, I know. But check it out! nostr:note1sppdctakuwsme52zw0k8cej4apjf0mj7k37qzun7ce7w9qahjjzqzxfnlt
I should clarify that I think Manyverse and PPPPP will carry on with new maintainers. I wish them the best!
The only limitation around swipe gestures is that it requires a native UI to work well on a given platform. Swipe on web-based UIs can be janky
Manyverse and the new version of SSB is no more.
> Building social media or social networks is not interesting to me anymore. These platforms seem like they're mostly strangers talking to strangers, where relationships are dependent on shared interests or shared opinions.
That is the crux of it. At some point, we just get tired of talking to strangers. What’s the point? Investing so heavily in something that pays so little. Imagine if we invested that much time into our real life connections.
Can Nostr facilitate *that*? I think it can. I would love to see municipalities run nostr relays for their communities. Let tax dollars pay for it the server upkeep.
Including the relay data (like nrelay in NIP-19) in a note is basically like how area codes work in phone numbers. Or a return address on mail. Very cool!
The sign-in would only be using a device. So way less friction. And maybe they’re built in such a way that they have no cache at all.
Yeah I think they’d be a relay too. Because similar to phone booths, you’d need to be able for ppl to write back to you. So maybe using that one NIP it can signal “hey I’m contacting from this relay” (or “relay network” bc the terminals would probably all be gossiped in a city at least)
I’ve just been using local search on nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 , which is nice for some purposes. For example, trying to find a post that you know you’ve seen before
It seems possible today. Just a matter of spreading the vision. I think I saw someone a long time ago use Nostr in this way with a signing device btw.
Your address book would be associated with your keys, so the signing device would have it all. + the public terminal can include its own “yellow pages” for businesses and people in the area.
This is the selling point of using Nostr for DMs btw. It’s not that it has the most advanced privacy. It’s the potential ease and ubiquity
Isn’t there a way for people to do this with Coracle right now? Basically log in with a signing device? Could be a really cool gimmick to test at the next Nostr conference. Phone booth terminal haha
📣 We need public NOSTR terminals
With landline phones, the address book used to be separate from the communication device. You just had your little black book and that’s all you needed. Didn’t really matter what phone you used.
THAT was real freedom. And Nostr can bring it back.
Every home, library, street corner should have a terminal. All I need is my signing device to sign the message.

It’s getting harder and harder to keep up with the timeline.
Algorithms need to get smarter.
That is how some custom feeds work in BlueSky. And given the way custom feeds work there (they are services that ppl run afaik), the equivalent would be DVMs I believe (cc nostr:npub1wmr34t36fy03m8hvgl96zl3znndyzyaqhwmwdtshwmtkg03fetaqhjg240 )
Sort of the holy grail of a thick client. That, and tracking what you have seen and haven’t seen / remembering your place in the timeline.
I didn’t mean racial/ethnic/cultural tension in what I wrote a couple messages up btw. I meant diversity of thought.
I think cultural diversity is always going to be difficult unless you give people an option to simply “tap out” via the internet
Older generations experienced “diversity” in a more physical/tangible way than younger ones. Tensions and biases were higher until people simply started to retreat to their TV sets and (eventually) computers/phones.

We still respect each other and are good friends. Working on the same mission from two different angles.
There’s a lesson in there. ✌️💜☀️
I think Mutiny has shown that it optimized for both. Their UX is the most similar to venmo or cash app than any other wallet I’ve used.
Keep the maximum freedom settings in the advanced menus
