I'm sceptical of the zaps in nostr: is there a vison and is there motivation in the right places to achieve it?
Zaps are going through Wallet of Satoshi or ln dot tips, the latter actually being the telegram tip bot. Even if some people think that's fine, it's certainly not what #nostr is about.
It's custodial and centralized, not to mention the privacy implications. That may be fine for a while, but I've seen this play out differently in practice.
Sure, it's good to familiarize people with using the currency. You're really just abstracting away ledger transfer that doesn't represent the actual technology.
That still might be fine, but it usually doesn't get past the fun little microtransactions.

That all matches my understanding, as well. Ledgering makes it more simple.
The issue is in order to do so, you need to know sender, receiver, and amount. #Monero transactions hide all 3.
So, yes there are fees with each monero transaction but they're so low that you can still send very small amounts and the fee is still a fraction.
you can put your time and talent into it for money if you need it, but that's time set aside from putting your heart into something else
ln for picomonero would could be very cool! it would only be useful for use cases that lend to its privacy.
It seems nostr isn't meant to publicly broadcast user transactions between users, and encourages identify links.
I still have lot to understand about how zaps work before I would be ready to propose something.
but as far as #monero goes, it's already built for what you need it for without any fancy tools or services.
I can raise funds by publicly sharing a subaddress, or generate a payment url for an invoice. it also works in btcpay server.
I don't know what's happening with this #zappathon, but seems people are excited!

It seems sending these instant zaps needs three things:
1. own a domain
2. backend service that can issue/manage lnurl addreses, without a static LN address
3. a wallet that handles the invoices from lnurl-pay
the 2nd one seems to be the tricky part.
Looking into it, I've gone down rabbit holes that seem "non-trivial" on the backend setup compared to the client side.

It's great to have the functionality at all, but I'm sure we're all hoping for a future of an uncensored net that doesn't rely on bitcoin flowing through two custodial services.

For me, I'm just partially in #nostr, but I'm excited for its promise. It has *so* much potential, but it's still geared fo a niche crowd.
Twitter is still the way to connect with the general crowd. Still, people are #growingnostr
i like how this platform lets people easily reward people for content that contributes. It incentivizes good content on the network.
Meanwhile, Elon is trying to monitze #Twitter by having charging individual account subscriptions where people pag for just a chance at getting "exposure"
