When I first realized that was what was going on I was flabbergasted. It's interesting, because obviously pharoah became a tyrant — but if the famine was as bad as Genesis says (7 years is a long time to be unable to harvest anything), everyone would have died without a strong king to coerce them into saving.

It was not the pharoah at the time, but Joseph that introduced the tyranny once the famine started in chapter 47.

The Pfizer and Moderna covid shots are not vaccines. Not even by their modified definition (have to be effective to match the new definition). China has an actual vaccine (attenuated actual virus) for Covid. But you might as well just catch Covid - most effective, and no riskier for most people.

IMO it means that if Caesar or Washington minted the money, it belongs to them. Caesars liked to have their face on the money because vanity.

The real dumpster fire happens when a govt demands a (minimal) head tax, but it has to be in govt coin - which you don't have without abandoning your fields and working in a mine / oilfield sponsored by said govt.

I hadn't thought about them, but interesting connection. My thoughts ran to the only thing "cooler" than that (or more dastardly or whatever), would be for Trump to get re-elected and then pardon himself!

So far, none of the "crimes" Trump is being prosecuted for are real crimes, or even make sense.

Then the Bitcoin fees become prohibitive for tiny payouts. Or are you thinking of Lightnight payouts instead of Bitcoin? That is still effectively custodial.

I agree with your comment, first there are many spaces on the internet where there is content exclusively for children and #nostr is definitely not the place.

Second, those who must protect and take care of what you want the children to see or consume on the internet are the parents, not the others.

Third, if a child wants to search for and consume porn, he will do it anywhere. Rather, you have to educate and talk about the subject with them and not demand that others take care of what they do or publish.

We got rid of our TV in 1995 to protect our kids. (The red line was cancelling OG StarTrek reruns.) But they still got a taste at neighbor's houses. Fortunately, it was mostly football and American Idol. We saw the wholesome TV content via video rental.

Tagging worked well for Usenet. All the porn stuff went in the alt.sex.* hierarchy. Don't subscribe, and you don't see it.

Yeah, it’s a pull system, so you can pull whatever you want. Essentially, you can “follow” anyone without leaving any clear sign that you are following them.

We also have private follows, where the follow is encrypted with your key so only you can know you are following someone.

So when using avian carrier (microSD in backpack on carrier pigeon) or other sneaker net, a minimum of a full round trip is required to see updates. (Outgoing trip with pull requests, return trip with results.)

On SSB, you could publish a follow (bad for the evil govt scenario), and get regular updates without a pull request. Similarly on usenet. The tape cartridge would be preloaded with the current subscriptions when the carrier showed up. I wonder if there is a way to anonymously have standing pull requests?

You can simplify a lot of this using wireguard between the server and your full node. You can host lnbits on the server and point it at your node via the wg ip. No port opening, no home IP address needed.

I use Cjdns, which does not require reconfiguring when IPs change. The Cjdns IP6 is permanent and cryptoauthenticated (as well as e2e) like a nostr address.

Throughput is higher with wg, openvpn, and other pt2pt vpns, and yggdrasil provides a high throughput mesh vpn like cjdns (but with higher latency).
