New version but dropped the version number. Does it matter? Only if you have a bug to report. All content is original. All pics are mine unless noted.

My original first Nostr posts from 2023 disappeared. I really gotta get my own relay.

When shit needs to get done. That may be 6ish, or it may be 0130. I love on a federally mandated and regulated clock. #trucker

My Garmin thinks it knows so much about be. Lemme tell ya. Bouncing around in a truck is NOT the equivalent of walking 6000+ steps or 10+flights of stairs everyday. BUT Garmin (and all the other "smart watches" can't discern and think you can "walk" at 65mph. The sleep tracker is kinda accurate.

Then I dare you, triple dog styles, to log in.

I double dog dare you to (if you still have it) log in to Facebook. I get served up lots of ads and videos for cars because that's been a hobby of mine since before I could drive. I BOUGHT the actual Auto trader pulps and still browse the site frequently. Now I get served ads like theirs and others. Oh, and hot girl bait videos because I'm a man who likes cars and BBQ. My wife gets only cute dog videos and cooking... They WILL know you by your cookies.

If you close on "following" it will open on "following". If you close on "for you" it will open on "for you". If you close on a list you made it will open on "following". Test it out.

X accesses various ad services which track your activity everywhere. They WILL know you. They WILL test you. You can report or block or mute... Which helps you AND them.

People bitch about algorythms but that's who you are. You may not like it, but that IS who you are. They are designed to encourage engagement and keep you on the site. They look at what you spend time with, comment on, share, search, and on some cases not even on the app but across other platforms.

Like bad car accidents, you stop and stare. You may even cut a menacing smile thankful it wasn't you because you're above all that.

Like a fight in the street, you whip out your phone to record "for entertaining your friends" later.

Like those who watch NASCAR for the crashes or the NFL for the hard tackles you enjoy watching old men stumble up stairs, or young pageant contestants stumble over words because it's not happening to you.

You secretly LOVE engaging in a war of words even if that war exists only in your head. That's why all those daytime talkshows and court shows exist.

So your feed is full of hot chicks or dudes (hey, whatever gets your engagement), political fire, the latest crisis (today it's Haitians, btw), some cute animal videos (are you team puppy or kitty?), maybe some cars, or knitting, or baking, or whatever hobby you actively pursue. That's what the algo will show. That IS who you are whether you want to admit it or not.

I'm pretty sure my advice to my children, when seeking a long term mate, will be to request to see what the algo is showing their partner. It knows them better than they're willing to admit even to themselves. It will also prod and shape who they will become. Ideally they've escaped the algo and will reply "I only have Nostr and I run my own server and relay"

The algo serves up what you look at/engage with. That it showed you that says more about you. Mine's Canadian political crap (I engage), cute dog vids (often shared to the wife), and truck stuff (job related searches).

I was gonna say how much it reminded me of TweetDeck... Ah, memories. Dang it! That AI personality thing said I was all about nostalgia, too.

Why I'm NOT deleting Xitter. While I may not contribute much there now, and it's really bad for rage inducement, there are services I use that are there that are job related.

1) As a trucker, all the DOTs post on Xitter so when an accident or construction is happening it's reported there first. Without a Xitter account you can't even search the hashtags related.

And

2) There are non-rage follows I like to keep in touch with. They aren't purple or orange pilled yet. They are very much white pilled and contribute to culture. I'm talking bout DJs and producers, artists and illustrators, etc.

Nostr is growing but why cut off a whole limb of social interaction? Try to curate your feed and skip the "for you" section. Gradually bring people over to Nostr but know that many won't want to take that step till they either have a community here or have been hurt.

THIS is why you never tailgate a truck. My rear tire blew out taking out the mudflap as well and bending the bar that holds it. Speed was at 57mph. You really wouldn't want this to mess up your pretty car's face.

You spelt butties wrong. Your bitties are well shaded. Probably the predictive text on your keyboard.

Son was playing a soccer match Saturday and one of the other teams player's names was Mana (sp? But it sounded like it) and I mumbled under my breath to my wife that song. There are no coincidences that you just posted this.

GM! I may be a dork but there are dorks who have already outdorked me. Thought I'd be clever and get some vanity plates and EVERY SINGLE ONE was already taken. They were:

- 101010 (I really wanted this one!)

- SHIFT 8

- ASTERISK

- UUDDLRLR

- AIIII118

Back to the drawing board. I've found a few that are kinda cool but also am careful of opsec on my car. So, gimme some suggestions!

Twitter was paramount in bitcoins growth and its battles. Was a very cool quirky place eons before that too. Even though I have a very old account, bitcoin was the reason I started using it more frequently.

I met an incredible amount of good ppl there. Some of the best ppl I know was directly or indirectly because of the bird app. Hired ppl. Connected ppl.

There was/is absolutely nothing like it.

It's hard to imagine how the direction of my life would have gone, it was greatly impacted by it.

Crazy place! A true public square, I'm incredibly grateful for it.

Covid killed it, or at least accelerated its dystopian trajectory.

US politics gravitational force also doesn't help. Nothing on earth can scape use politics, everyone and everything deal with its consequences.

Even decentralized things. But they fare better. See bitcoin.

Anywho... Being with the X account deactivated over the weekend was quite nice, it had been a very long time since I fully disconnected. It is still a lot of signal, a lot of Lindy. But is also became an open sewer. (Why?)

The algorithm evolved for maximum conflict. It's hard to even describe how much it makes your skin crawl. It finds all the shit you don't want to read by the ppl you don't even knew about existed and vomits on you. Even with the large muted word list. It's not a healthy place.

Maxium engagement = more ad views?!

I don't want the firehose all the time. Humans are not designed for that. Different moods different content. Different types of engagement. Maybe even different clients for different sub network graphs. It's time time evolve. I think Nostr takes us there.

BUT I think Twitter's value can't be ignored. It is still a ginormous network.

That's aside from good ppl I know there, where it is our only comms channel.

I plan on drastically decreasing my use of it, truly limiting to posts about Nostr, projects I like and amplifying bitcoin things I believe in. The goal is to trend towards end of use. Hopefully it gracefully coincides with Nostr rising as the new public square. Protocols must be open. There must algo choice. Or we are doomed to doom scroll and ad target conflict.

I no longer will allow myself to scroll.

And will try to starve the beast as much as possible.

GN

Yeah... You jumped on it pretty early. I resisted for 6 more months after you. It was very limited back then but the community was so tight. Did you take part in the Twestivals and Tweetups we'd have (I was going to those in Vancouver)?

What's nuts is that as "early" as I was (15M users already) we're far earlier on Nostr and Nostr only exists standing on the backs of giants.
