I setup a Secret chat between myself and my wife using my relay:
a hosted service on
It didn't work, we couldn't exchange messages, despite both our npub's having write access to this relay.
So I deleted that secret chat and setup a new one using your (default) relay and this worked, we can chat back and forth.
Is this a relay issue, does my relay.tools relay not support the required NIP?

You need to ensure that your relay supports kind 1059 events, as this might be the reason for the issue.

afaik, the main thing about a secret chat is that your messages will be sent and received to/from one specific relay, isolated. based on my experience since the relay is limited and specific the performance is better as well.
A specific relay is one of the factors, but the most important difference is that both parties use temporary keys, ensuring a certain level of forward secrecy.

I'm seeing 3 levels of encryption within your app.
I can see any DMs in your app, but I get a "Not gift-wrapped" message alert for normal DMs
DMs between 0xChat clients appear to be gift-wrapped. I can't see these messages in most NOSTR clients. I can, however, see them in nostr:npub1nz64zngcqm8vj8nhrdkcjpfwn2rcaqysnxec88tqfclp5afrpglsqm0w5y
There is also a "Start secret chat" option in the npub profile of the other party. If I enable this, it creates a new chat session with a padlock at the top of the screen. I can no longer see this within Amethyst.
What is this please?

We can receive normal DMs but cannot send them. When you receive a normal DM, there will be a yellow mark notification.

On iOS when I first created an account it showed an npub for public key but then displayed another npub as my “private key”. When checking my keys afterwards I see the proper nsec. Just wanted to make you aware.
