A political riptide is pulling us back to the terrifying depths of misogyny and racism. Like any riptide, swimming away from it before heading back to shore is the way out. We need to stop the backward momentum before moving forward again, and we need to start now. The GOP took 50 years to set us back. If that bunch of idiots can do it, smart people like us can UNDO it with a combination of intelligence AND a whole lotta South Philly-style political street fighting.

I'm not sure how it is elsewhere, but I'm noticing a troublesome trend that reminds me of 2015. Of the people I regularly talk to, those who said Trump couldn't possibly win in 2016 are saying the same about 2024. Same attitude, only now with "But he's being indicted' as the reason. It's one thing for the GOP to go all in for the man, but I hope the rest of us don't get lazy & assume he can't win because of the indictments. I hope the trend is just where I live and not indicative of a wider one

I don't encounter this much, at least not where I live. Today, I spoke with a woman with a son in Scientology. What she told me about that cult (which is exactly what it is) was horrifying. It seems he gave them almost all his life savings and is now cutting off friends and family. I've heard about Scientology off and on through the years but never spoke to anyone connected to someone in that cult. It truly is horrifying.

There's E22. Haven't caught him on camera for a few days. At this stage, he's been at the nest a bit longer than most. The record holder is E15, who stayed for six months. Harriet and M15 built a second nest that year - either for him or for them! It's the nest that was eventually taken over by the owls.

There are so many questions. Harriet died in February. M15 raised his eaglets alone, a feat that not many single eagles could have done. E21 left a week ago, more than prepared for life on her own. E22 will follow suit. The questions are about M15. His first and only mate was Harriet. Who will he choose for his next mate? Fall promises to be violent and chaotic as females fight for him.

So many people have completely closed their hearts - to others, compassion, empathy, and the potential for love. It's easy to do nowadays when things are so tough. And it's easy to let that heart harden with the years. Not me.

I realize having an open heart will result in heartbreak from time to time. But with age, I realize the solution isn't to close it off; it's to just be more careful who I give it to. I will always have an open heart, no matter what. The reward is worth the risk. 💗
