If during a conversation you expect certain behaviors or enforce rules on how to communicate with you, you are censoring the other person and will not receive honest opinions and thoughts.

I've been eating junk food for the most of my life. Then I listened to people who are agains it, and the people who are for it. I analyzed and understood that junk food is bad. I've never eaten it again.
I started eating a 'healthy diet', with lots of vegetables and fruit. Then I listened to people for/against it, analyzed, and understood that it is not that healthy at all. I don't eat vegetables and fruit anymore.
The smartest and the most logical people are carnivores. They look the best, feel the healthiest, and their life is the closest to the evolutionary lifestyle of humans.
I eat carnivore now. Will see how it goes...
Our bodies are trained to certain behaviors and reactions on certain emotions and hormones. And the training was mostly random.
If we want to be effective and successful, we need to retrain all these mechanisms.
