Thanks, here is the website for Nimiq. Note the story, top left corner, about BTC Lightning integration. https://www.nimiq.com/

Thanks for sharing. I've deciphered the regional motto with the help of the wikipedia page, which I will enjoy studying further, a technologically progressive people with their own strong local identity?

Read the first sentence carefully. Who else is willing to commit to the first principles contained therein?

You are welcome to have interim conclusions in favour of "Bitcoin only" or Proof of Work only. But the search for solutions which best meet the first principles needs to continue.

Thanks for engaging! Personally, I wasn't convinced by nostr:npub1cn4t4cd78nm900qc2hhqte5aa8c9njm6qkfzw95tszufwcwtcnsq7g3vle presentation.

I wonder if it would be possible to have an adversarial debate at a Bitcoin conference, e.g. Bitcoin vs shitcoin, PoW vs PoS? Also, let's pick the cryptos to compare and contrast with #Bitcoin based on rigorous technical criteria, not just market cap.

Personally, I am all in on Bitcoin + Nimiq, the latter of which is transitioning to Proof of Stake. The depth of research being done on blockchains is too substantial just to be sniggered at! Here is something from the Nimiq team, the third metric concerns mitigation against centralisation under Proof of Stake. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djTHvlIWJGs&t=17s

Here is the explanation of the NIM to BTC LN bridge, including some details of how it works under the hood. If you wanted to get hands-on, you could get your hands on some NIM and try sending it to your Alby wallet. DM me and I will send you some NIM to your Nimiq Pay app! https://www.nimiq.com/blog/pay-with-nim-everywhere-lightning-network-is-accepted/

Thanks for your interest, let me how you get on!

Thanks, but that suggests that it isn't a case of "don't fix it if it ain't broke", and the search is still on for a solution.

Thanks for engaging, and my apologies if I misrepresented something you said earlier. "...functionality that bitcoin doesn’t support" is clear to me. That is part the appeal of an additional L1, that it could present the Bitcoin ecosystem with fait accompli in terms of additional functionality, and thus speed up the developmental process, time being of the essence, as nostr:npub1m4ny6hjqzepn4rxknuq94c2gpqzr29ufkkw7ttcxyak7v43n6vvsajc2jl describes.

Is there some resource I can look at to get clear in my head the distinction between "application layer" and the rest? At the end of the day, for me, it comes down to code and functionality, I'm agnostic as to the layer or avenue through which it arrives!

Nimiq Pay app now offers a self-custodial bridge to make BTC LN payments!

What I don't get is the restrictive focus on #Bitcoin, rather than using whatever it takes to build the financial freedom tech stack. To an extent, is it not just a question of various pieces of code, which are either performant or they are not?

What I heard from nostr:npub1kuy0wwf0tzzqvgfv8zpw0vaupkds3430jhapwrgfjyn7ecnhpe0qj9kdj8 is that some hardcore Bitcoiners are discussing Bitcoin integration with L1s, but that these conversations tend to take place in private. And I can well understand why that would be, given the reaction any time I have the temerity to speak out against the group think!

Don’t trust, verify. Let’s have a proper discussion on proof of work versus proof of stake instead of blindly trusting in what nostr:npub1cn4t4cd78nm900qc2hhqte5aa8c9njm6qkfzw95tszufwcwtcnsq7g3vle says as the final word on the matter. #asknostr

Anyone who is genuinely committed to the development of the financial freedom tech stack needs to checkout what the #Nimiq team is doing. You can now pay with self-custody $NIM at all #LightningNetwork acceptance locations, using the Nimiq Pay app. #Bitcoin #AskNostr https://www.nimiq.com/blog/pay-with-nim-everywhere-lightning-network-is-accepted/

That latest version of nostr:npub1uq70uqgas9pyhds2zt57kr9se8rg3s68ztphjnq82ts8rzeknmeql7u0c2 is powered by Nostr. I didn't know this. Fedi accounts are Nostr npubs. Fedi also includes a NIP-07 signing extension allowing you to browse and use the Other Stuff of Nostr with ease. I saw a handful of Nostr apps included on this "apps tab". They just work. You can also export your private key to use the key in other apps. And soon, you'll be able to import your existing private key. Mind is blown. Super bullish.

Is it self-custodial?

I am not asking you to accept the burden of proof, just that somehow objective criteria need to be set to assess the L1. The burden of proof is then on the L1 to meet those criteria.

Also, I don't feel it makes sense to conflate all "other blockchains" and tar them all with the same brush, even if a very high % of them are shitcoins.

I have one L1 in mind. But I don't feel to show my hand to those who have concluded that *all* other cryptos than BTC are shitcoins, or in a situation where there are no objective benchmarks and the goal posts keep moving!

(And please don't feel these points are in response to you personally. It is just that I feel to lay the ground as best as is possible, given how hard I feel it is for a L1 to gain acceptance.)
