Saw a few feathers on the hike today and then another Tom in the field strutting his stuff. They’re out like crazy this year but I think they’re more active cuz of mating and new early hunting season? 🤷♂️

It's is their mating season. Depending on the hunting pressure on the area if you whistle or clap at toms and jakes they should gobble back at you. If the hunting pressure is high the loud ones get taken out first.

In the summer time they just live in backyard. In the winter I have a bunch of heating pads and blankets I wrap them up. If I get hit with blew 40, rain , and wind all at the same time then they come inside. I have woken up to a tortoises orgy in the living room once.

He has broken my fence a couple of times and knocked me on my ass when I has hand feeding him once. They can be surprisingly fast when they want to be.
The last time I weighed my large male (about 2 years ago) he was 58 pounds. They can get up to 200 pounds in the right conditions.
