I get physicist! The study of the infinite properties of everything.

Can I sue the US government for selling confiscated BTC to the public while also creating policy to restrict or ban the use of it.

So nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx gave an absolute masterclass on the problems with Musk's current Twitter approach on WBD, starting at the 17m mark. It's a great advertisement for Nostr and I recommend everyone watch it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ms-dE6aasA

I've been retweeting or reposting Odell's various observations on this topic for a while and so I'm happy to share this too, including on Twitter today, even as a filthy blue-check myself.

Where I disagree with Odell (slightly) is on tactics. He thinks people should give up blue checks in protest. And that's a very fair position. I don't disagree, especially for someone like Odell with a purist position and a generally cypherpunk audience.

But I think there are multiple successful paths on this. I have always been a Twitter fan, and my normie audience is there. I wanted to be able to pay for better UX and anti-impersonation defenses for years before they became available. Just because Musk is running it doesn't mean I won't pay for helpful services, especially if they protect my audience. Real people lose money to Lyn Alden impersonation scams if they can't tell my account from others, and I directly hear from them when it happens. It's always heartbreaking.

So, I'm on the offensive, not the defensive. The way I view it, unless or until someone censors me on Twitter, they're locked in there with me, rather than me being locked in there with them. If having a blue check reduces the success rate of impersonation scams and amplifies my reach at calling out Twitter's problems, I'll have the blue check. What I absolutely *won't* do is change what I say based on a blue check. If anything, I purposely overdo it to the opposite and exaggerate my criticisms on purpose to push back against platform incentives.

Two simultaneous approaches:

1) Call out the problem on Twitter. Don't give Musk a pass. Point out that a pro-freedom, pro-anonymity view doesn't match with what is going on there. Don't let his rhetoric disguise his inaction. If Twitter cares about freedom and anonymity then they will offer a paid option that doesn't require identity (e.g. the "orange check" bitcoin payment.) Until something like that, they are LARPing and are fair to criticize as such.

2) Have your foot here on Nostr and on decentralization technologies generally. In the long run, I think this is the future. And more importantly, I hope it is.

The problem with Twitter, and Facebook is that most users fail to be aware of the Wizard behind the curtain pulling all his levers. Take with a grain of skepticism what you are manipulated to believe there.

Coin Center's case challenging Congress’s expansion of Section 6050I of the tax code was dismissed yesterday.

You should be paying attention, because this will impose mass surveillance on ordinary Americans, no CBDC required…

Remember that sneaky addition to Biden’s Infrastructure Bill in 2021 that most people forgot about?

Now that Coin Center’s case was dismissed, on Jan 1, 2024 this law will require anyone receiving crypto / #Bitcoin  payments > $10,000 to report to the transaction to the government AND report the personally identifiable information of the sender as well…

No warrant required.

From Coin Center:

“The reporting mandate would force Americans using cryptocurrency to share intrusive details about themselves, both with each other and with the federal government. Under the terms of the mandate, everyday senders and receivers of cryptocurrency would be forced to reveal their names, Social Security numbers, home addresses, and other sensitive personal identifying information.

Receivers would then have FIFTEEN DAYS to report all of that information about both parties, along with the details of their transactions, to the federal government.

The 2021 amendment’s reporting mandate would also require the receivers to maintain records of their transactions and the personal identifying information of senders for five years.”

This is a blatantly unconstitutional move by the Biden Administration.

The question is: will any of the pro-Bitcoin candidates speak up about this?

Good luck tracking all this stuff. The government couldn’t even track where all the pandemic stimulus money went to. And they’re the ones that sent it.

50000 sats min. 1st time. Will wait awhile to see how this goes for all

Any world reserve currency controlled by any nation state will always result in an abuse of power. Bitcoin is the answer.

Hey dude! It’s more about attention span. Some people don’t have any, so they run back to Twit.

When ETF paper Gold was created, and more paper then gold available was created, it was easy to do. People did not want to deal with real gold. Difficult to purchase, difficult to sell. Could not transfer digitally. Had to be an expert or have proper equipment to verify weight and purity. And definitely difficult to store, transport, and protect. That’s why they sold you paper. And they sold you more paper then they had gold to back it, because they could get away with it. That behavior wrecked the gold market for years. Educate yourselves about Bitcoin. You don’t have to buy they’re paper ETF’s. You can buy it, sell it, store it, protect it, transport it, and verify it’s authenticity with just a little knowledge. Don’t buy they’re ETF’s and make them rich. Hodl your own and enrich yourself.

If you think this government is for the people by the people, you have definitely been duped. There does not need to be a violence revolution to change this. Refuse to use their money, and they will lose their power over you. Bitcoin is the peaceful revolution. If enough people do this, then your government will be forced to listen to their people.

No kind of weapons ban would ever work in the USA. As the saying goes, ban the weapons, and then only the criminals will have them. Not a good idea. However, I do believe that we have the right to know that we are in the presence of someone that has a assault weapon. Technology is not here yet, but what if these type of weapons had some sort of tracking device imprinted in them. You could then have an app, that will alert you that there is an assault weapon in your vicinity. Good for the public and law enforcement to know if one of these weapons are near any public gathering. I would refrain from allowing my family to be present at any event that it was indicated that one of these types of weapons were present.

Moving over to Web Client Coracle.social. What a shame that Apple not allowing Damus any longer.

Look not what the dollar will give you for your Bitcoin, but look what your fellow man will provide with service or product for your Bitcoin. Drop out of the Fiat System.

Here’s a question for the community. Can the risk that a hardware wallet manufacturer introducing firmware that can extract your private keys be mitigated in some way. I know it would be bad business for any of these companies to do it, but if one was bought out by a bad actor that would be scary.

Crypto Currency Gloom? There are a lot of interesting things happening, that you maybe need to look past the headlines from crony news networks to appreciate. Jack Maller moving Strike to El Salvador. Good Move. Bitcoin miners making tons of money with ordinals. Also Good! Miners will hopefully use profits to buy and move more miners to more diverse locations. Ordinals will pass, or someone will develop a better way to inscribe them onto the Bitcoin network without it jamming up the Mempool. Average Joe’s like me and you accumulating 1 bitcoin wallets. Forget the Whales. They and Wall Street are just here to manipulate for trading. Who needs them. Bitcoin doesn’t need them. Works fine without them. A stagnating USA maybe beginning to wake up and smell the roses, of past failures with old regimes. Out with the old, and in with the new. Bitcoin is a part of a free society. It does not threaten the Fiat Dollar, unless the Fiat dollar is being used as a weapon against others that don’t agree with these old timers that are running things, and only protecting their own wealth. Bitcoin is freedom to choose, and that is American. Yes, you have to learn how to handle Crypto Currencies. There are plenty of sources out there to help. Yes there are scammers that will attempt to take advantage of your lack of understanding. Believe me, the US government has already chumped you into believing what they want you to believe. Talking us into putting our life savings in the stock market, and then manipulating the hell out of it. Forced to put money into the Social Security, and Medicare programs, and then robbing the funds for pet projects. Oh, the government is going broke. Print some more money with nothing to back it. The hidden tax as all that money filters into the economy and the price of everything goes up. Get a lawyer if your feeling cheated. Then you will really be cheated.
