Operators replaced by switches and touch tones. For the most part I prefer the "self-service" model for basic tasks, but we did give up a lot by taking humans out of the loop.

But there's the fact that retail is moving back to staff picking orders instead of the supermarket model is encouraging. "But I'm fussy about my produce" isn't turning out to be such a big deal after all. Good produce mgrs have already done most of that for you.

Skydio still has better software, DJI still has better cameras. Word is Skydio is introducing new hardware this fall but I'm guessing it will be aimed at deep pockets industrial, military and first responders; not consumers.

Shared infrastructure isn’t going to work for autonomous robots. At least drones require a pilot in command to monitor the airspace and be ready to intervene. Sucks for Amazon delivery because it screws up margins but good for the industry.

I'm just about to cut Reddit out of my life. Too many people shouting past each other.

In the 1960s my dad put seatbelts into our pickup truck.

That same period my sister and I would sleep in the camper while my parents drove to Eastern Oregon for the weekend. No seatbelts or any restraints there.

My friend was allowed stand on the bench seat until he was tall enough to see out over the dashboard.

But I also remember in high school going with the director to Pittsburgh in a utility van to pick up costumes for the musical. I sat on a wobbly kitchen chair in the back because there were only two seats. This was technically a school function and all hell would have broke loose had there been a wreck.

At some point someone will figure out some use for the underutilized resource of abandoned roads that they can get for bargain prices, driving up prices and the cycle will repeat.
