For it is only the intellectually gifted who can spin the elaborate apologetics for State power, and if the State is to hold sway, it must secure the allegiance of the bulk of the intellectuals.”

“It is true that the State needs the intellectuals; but it is also true that the intellectuals need the State. As Ludwig von Mises pointed out, the intellectuals can earn a much higher income as paid apologists for the State than they can earn in the free market. Consequently, the State can always count on the support of a large part of the intellectuals.”

What needs to be said when people ask these questions is “so what if we’re wrong?” Bitcoin is just code, and if we’re wrong about it, “it” being the idea that money (time and energy) should be taken out of the hand of government and given back to the people to do with what they please, then we’re wrong about that piece of code being the answer to the problem this idea was intended to solve.

These questions remind me of the scene in Ready Player One when Artemis confronts Parzival about “not wanting to lose his 💩.” The real issue is that people aren’t ready to lose their life for the potential to actually find their life.

Old drawings - the second is of a sculpture called ‘Eve’ by Thomas Brock. I used to go to the V&A often, sometimes with my friend Ernest, and we would sit on the floor with our sketchbooks, talking about life and drawing for a few hours.
