In socialism, there is no wealth.
Wealth is illegal.
Do you have a graph for income (all sources) / salary?
Remember seeing that for UK about 15 years ago and there were a series of inverted cliffs, where you earn £1 over some threshold and lose a state benefit.
Was quite revealing to see it laid out graphically.
Of all social media networks I would guess nostr has the highest GDP/capita by some huge margin. And that’s without any ad revenue or corporate monetisation
I was in Singapore for F1 weekend in 2017, have some pictures somewhere from top of Marina Bay on the Saturday night of race weekend. Would recommend!
Yeah, Central Banks are really only for fighting wars.
During peacetime a nation should have falling prices, due to tech advancements, no debt and growing currency reserves. A kind of aerobic monetary system. Stable and sustainable.
During wartime, the central bank cuts rates causes an economic boom to win the war burns through all the reserves and runs up a lot of debt, all the be paid back after the war is won. A kind of anaerobic monetary system. Not sustainable.
The problem here is moral hazard, it’s just too tempting to pull the lever and run in war mode.
The West has been in war mode since 2001, pretty much as Bin Laden planned, which is the big tragedy. Now debts are unsustainable and the cost of servicing the national debt in an inflationary environment looks like a major issue in coming years.
Bitcoin allows you to avoid paying the inflation tax and actually collect the inflation tax, whilst also benefiting from technology advancements growing the economic footprint of goods and services that you can buy.
It isn’t yet, that’s my point. Nobody is doing it.
But you can sign packets. So any modified stuff would be very easy to detect / prevent.
It should. But stuff gets broken from time to time. Crops fail, boats sink, storms wreck stuff, etc.
All prices should trend lower as technology produces more stuff with less input, but instead… the world’s major economies all mass debase their currencies in a race to the bottom, and because their populations are well trained to just suck it up, they do.
Escape to hard money and you are paid both:
i). the growth from technology
ii) the inflation from debasement
It is cheat mode.
The value of your money stays the same (that’s what money is), it’s just the value of everything else goes down so long as technology and pop growth expand the amount of stuff in the economy.
Prices are just the ratio of money:stuff
Looking at some of the stats and comparing Bluesky to Nostr…. Norhing profound, but kind of useful to remind ourselves of scale.

nostr has more to figure out than most as it is starting from a deeper foundation, and is evolving organically and competitively rather than by design.
So we should expect it to take longer to form and longer to iterate to become something broadly compelling.
nostr has no technology limitations and is not short of talented developers, what is missing at the moment is diversity of business models.
nostr has maybe a dozen Twitter clones. Why? Why build the 13th Twitter clone?
There was nostrgram for a while, but really another brand clone. Why?
Stop cloning web2, what’s the point?
It already exists.
“Hey I built Twitter but better, because of [complicated reasons]”… is not compelling.
nostr needs to think a little more profoundly about what the tech actually is, and then lean into that and follow where that truth leads to… it does not lead to Twitter clones!
Discovery does not mean aggregation! Stop and think more deeply. Empower exploration instead of sterilising it, the internet made a bad turn, we can now go back and turn the other way.
Nostr is a permissionless standard for sharing things safely. Safe torrents are now possible, yet people are using nostr to churn out another social feed UI?
Notes are not limited to blobs of text.
Middleman relays are nice, but edge relays are the end game. I can already see that coming over the hill with nostrdb.
Patience and persistence are the only things that nostr needs to have protected whilst it incubates in public.
Can never guess the timing of these things.
T10 Rates 4.27%
Inflation 3.60%
GDP growth 5.9%
Much more expensive to weather a recession with rates at current levels. This is what makes 2023 fundamentally different to any time post 2008. ZIRP meant everyone could just run up credit lines whenever biz slowed, that’s no longer realistic.
Meow!
“Apple have invented a new supercharged USB with a thoughtfully contoured profile, is lighter weight and satisfyingly, mates in poly-orientation.
Once again Apple bring stunningly deep innovation, enabling users to unleash their creativity and enrich the everyday experience with industry-first features.”
- Or words to that effect.
nostrdb and nostrscript are very very powerful.
Turns the internet upside down / inside out and makes the edge some kind of exoskeleton.
A big part of getting stuck in a rut (with any aspect of your life), is when you accidentally normalise stuff that isn’t normal. Everyone does this from time to time, we are all just sort of blind to it.
The only way to get out of it is to unormalise the stuff that you accidentally normalised.
The challenge though is that the corrective action will feel extreme to you (not normal!), even though it’s probably pretty normal.
Humans can normalise anything, so from time to time it’s good to make some extreme decisions that are directionally positive for you, ie violate your bad habits, and make some sacrifices to hit on some good ones.
Over 30-40 years these tiny nudges massively compound to your advantage. Most people just flutter along through life stochastically normalising weird and unhelpful stuff.
Today, the English channel (which isn’t as old as bronze tools, pottery, painting or writing) is 21 miles wide and 400ft deep.
But tonnes of people believe climate change is a new thing and that 1 meter of sea level rise = end of world. 🤡 embarrassing.
