Even if a lot of people don't share this opinion, it's good to see some disagreement on nostr. At times it seems a bit too much like a monoculture (bitcoin chat room where everyone shares the same beliefs and says the same things a lot) and generating debate is healthy and a nice stress test.
Fair enough, I realized after I sent that I shouldn't have used the word always
If they're used mainly for the purpose of exclusion, sure. I don't see that happening with funny memes though.
Is the idea then that group signaling mechanisms are always bad? I'm not convinced of that. They can be an efficient way to communicate a shared context which would otherwise have to be built up from nothing with every interaction.
True, but that seems like a fairly likely usage pattern for those using Wasabi purely as an intermediate mixing wallet
TBH I feel Rust's safety guarantees are a bit overhyped. Garbage collected languages were already memory safe, and arguably more so since they don't don't have a way of opting out with the "unsafe" keyword. Safe in Rust really just means safer than C.
I hope it's not Amethyst. Mine behaves like a random number between 0 and about 150.
Merging your post mix coins can create a near deterministic link since the input amounts vary (easy to do if you're using the wallet for mixing before sending on to cold storage)
Personally I don't understand why environmentalism has become such a left vs. right issue. Conserving the environment is actually not such a radical idea, you could even call it a traditional value in a sense.
(Larger in "denomination" that is)
What's the rationale behind paying 10x the fee for a larger pool in Samourai whirlpool? It's not obvious to me how the larger pools would be more private / better.
Because of this I've switched back to using Sparrow which doesn't hide things you really do need to be thinking about if you care about privacy.
It's easy to use but just as easy to use incorrectly. I really dislike how they've hidden the coin control option behind a keyboard shortcut if you want to send specific UTXOs (control + c + d I think).
Previously I was impressed with Wasabi's user-friendliness, but now I would say it's actually too user-friendly.
It's very easy to take actions that largely undo the benefits of mixing and the user is left unaware and with a false sense of privacy.
I think all you can ever do is make the right decisions with the information available to you at the time. Once that's done there's a certain sense in which the outcome no longer matters, because that's outside your control.
At this point if BTC goes to zero then I would feel more sad for the rest of the world than upset with myself for betting on it.
