Introducing our newest 🍷 relay: welcome.nostr.wine

This is a new free read-only relay that only aggregates events from new #nostr users and displays them in global/universe. Add this relay and help me greet the newest members of our community!

Disclaimer: No guarantees I made this in a couple hours today on vacation. The methodology will improve over time. There are currently some “new users” that aren’t actually new. Let us cook a bit.

I run everything in docker.

It simplifies dependencies, network security, and most importantly versioning.

imo docker and kubernetes are the only virtualization that still have a good reason to exist.

With docker + caddy (which itself is running in docker, with a docker plugin for automatic reverse proxy) I have six services running on one beefy server. Some of those services need a specific version of a database engine or node. It’s no issue with docker.

At some point one of those services will need to be moved to another server due to traffic demands. Thats easy with docker. (kubernetes would do this automatically, but i’m not there yet) I’ll move one folder with all the state and run docker compose on the new server and be done.

I wasn’t a believer until this year, but docker does indeed solve some problems, and it has been very helpful.

Imho docker is a trap. It makes you think it simplifies things because the initial install is quick. But everything that comes next is unnecessarily complex.

Unpopular opinion: Bitcoin Nostr needs to mature and grow up. It's still primarily a "pat each other on the back" platform with a near-constant flow of one-liner comments and memes.

Don't get me wrong, I love the potential of Nostr, but to be honest I still find more useful and thought-provoking content on Twitter. So for the time being I will still need to continue using both.

Just as bitcoin took more than 20 years to emerge from primitive ideas, private messaging has taken a long time to develop to where we are today.

Contrary to what people think, development in computing is slower than it seems for certain fields.

Although you are right that many projects are left half done, that's why I insist on SimpleX, it solves most of the problems we have in the current private messengers, it has a polished interface and works really well.

It would be a shame if it got lost in the crowd.

It's really hard to keep up with all the options these days. I'm afraid we're no longer 'finishing' stuff but continuously start over.

You don't have to post your notes with your VPN that's up to you. I sometimes have this problem and I disconnect my VPN and I reconnect it and I'm able to upload pictures again. But I suggest you always post with a VPN.

If you are running a VPN disconnect your VPN and reconnect your VPN and you should be able to upload pictures and videos again.

It's kinda clear. For now, the US government (Executive Branch) is cracking down on cryptocurrency.

Unlike the SEC's Gary, who taught a Blockchain course at MIT, they do not make any distinction between Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Actually, Bitcoin's censorship resistance compared to other cryptocurrencies' lack of such is just another reason to fear it.

Swan is debanked in Texas (TX is also facing trouble from an anti mining bill now that like 1/3 of the world's hashrate is there. Not really, but maybe 1/4, what gives TX)

Anyway, so how are we gonna buy? Peer2peer local Bitcoins-like sites? They are going to face a liquidity crisis and the US will be like Nigeria where we are paying wayyyy over 'normal' Bitcoin price.
