I’m trying to remember the name of a book my 2nd grade teacher read to the class in the 1980’s.

It was about a boy who traveled to a future where everyone was required to carry a “pocket puter” (short for pocket computer.)

The main character was almost immediately arrested upon arrival in the future for not having a pocket puter to identify himself when stopped by police.

The other thing I remember was that a friend of the main character enjoyed fishing. However people either weren’t allowed to catch real fish or fish had gone extinct. I don’t remember which. He would take a rowboat out and dangle his line in the water to “catch” a tag that told him how big his “fish” was.

It’s not much to go on but if anyone knows the name of this book I would greatly appreciate the answer.

Well… he’s not wrong. I know a lot of people that choose freedom over democracy. That’s why we’re homesteading. We live in the woods, grown our own food, homeschool our kids, stack bitcoin and participate in local circular economics, etc.

I’ll take freedom over democracy any day. Of course, that’s not what old Joe was trying to say. However, it is what we need.

I used to live near there. It was a giant natural gas power generating plant and they green washed it by calling it a desalinization plant. It still generates electricity. They just put the waste water into the municipal supply and call it desalination to make all the local environmentalist feel better about it.

The other thing that helped me was to stop sitting on my wallet. I used to drive 3-4 hours a day and my sciatic pain made it almost impossible to walk. Removing the wallet and stretching took about two months to fix the problem.
